Is The New Rage Patch Released Yet?

RAGE was always first and foremost a platform for cutting their teeth with the texture handling technology (amonst other advancements). It'll be Doom 4 and other products using the engine that will be make or break for ID.

There was talk for awhile of Skyrim using the engine but it wasn't in any shape to handle that scale at the time development would have had to get underway for that - its quite likely that other Bethesda products will use the engine however.
ID still need to go back to their roots & make PC version(s) first then the others after that way gamers will vote with their wallets. If RAGE was a stunning looking game on PC & designed for it the sales potential would have been well into 7 figures as it stands they have not even come close to that on PC when 7 weeks after initial release I could buy the premium retail DLC version for £11 from GAME as they had so much surplus stock in the channel the price dropped suddenly which is pretty shocking really but a sad indication of sales vs demand even the console version were 50% + off after 2 months & are now hovering around the £10 mark.

Carmack has already stated he no longer sees the PC as the priority so Doom4 is obviously another multiplatform release which will no longer have the luxury of time as Zenimax own ID they will call all the shots ID will just be another developer to them & right now a tarnished one as RAGE underperformed massively.

Its such a shame really as ID really were a champion for the PC but it seems their priorities shifted one Zenimax bought the company so now they appear to be just another ex-PC developer who happen to make PC ports

google is your friend.

Well that's just it. Google, in this case, isn't my friend. I can find no data on PC sales other than the fact it topped the sales charts in both retail and Steam when it came out. According to vgcharts (which I don't really count as reliable) It has sold around 2million copies across both PS3 and 360 worldwide. Even with this information it can't be determined whether it was a commercial failure or not without knowing the development and marketing costs.

Now you must know something that I don't in order to assert your claim so perhaps you care share your source.

Well out of interest I tried to fire up RAGE for the first time in a few months, reverts to 480x680 res and runs at 0.3fps. Impressive!

Gave up on this game ages ago. Sat on my shelf gathering dust as it was completely unplayable at the time and with the announcments from I.D it never will be so thats the end of that.

I will never ever buy anything from I.D again. Their legacy is now tainted beyond forgivness as far as I am concerned.

It seems to me that ID have come to terms they have released a very user-'UN'friendly game and abandoned it rather than try and sort it. Probably cos the whole game engine would need work and its a too bigger job to undertake. So they figure, forget about Rage and move on.

Put it this way, when was the last time Rage was updated on Steam with some compatibility patches, bug patches, graphics updates or glitch patches? Ages ago.

There is a DLC section in the main menu to Rage, click on it, what do you get....nothing.

It would at least be nice of them to offer a refund of some sort IMO. I know they don't have too, would just be nice to be given the option, shelled out £30 on a game that I've racked up 50mins on (according to steam) and only spent roughly 10 mins of that in game, the rest seeing if it actually works!

I also understand that some of it is down to drivers, but in the big picture its ID's fault...

22 Hours on RAGE, felt I got my moneys worth but the game only really starts getting good about 70% of the way in and by then you don't really want to go back and revisit old content and the game ends pretty suddenly after that... given a bit more time I think it could have really shined but its too sloppy/disjointed i.e. some of the tools that are really fun to popping the earlier mutants, etc. you don't get until late in the game and by that point you've moved onto the next lot of enemy and those tools aren't so useful there and theres not enough content to go back for beyond a few minutes experimenting with what stuff does.

Haven't got past the first mission yet, even with the latest drivers it just crashes on loading up. I have a 5850 on XP 32 bit.

I paid the supermarket price for it on release, so am a tad disappointed.

Thought it was pretty meh to be honest :( Used to love iD games back in the day too. Some of the textures were zx spectrum quality :o Gameplay was pretty repetitive too. Won't be buying any more iD games.

For an ID game coming into 2011 it wasn't very ground-breaking - something that previous ID titles were good at doing, in my opinion. The level design was a bit too simplified for SP experience in 2011, but would be great for MP. Story was a bit messy too, gameplay was inconsistent, but overall I did have fun. It's one of those, play and forget type of games - fun for a while in the 'moment', but totally forgettable with little replay value.

Would have been nice to see them fix the bugs and expand the game a bit with DLC addons, especially for a MP component. Doubt they will now though.:(

I thought it was a great game, none of the problems for me (I don't own an AMD card) the shotgun was awesome and some of the art great too. However, it was far too easy on Nightmare, the indoor textures were horrible and static scenery was inexcusable for a game made in this day and age. I'd still gladly pay for some DLC though. I just hope and pray they've taken the criticism on board and implement it in Doom 4 as I still expect great things from it.

If you google about you will find some info on how to enable even more graphic options via a txt file. No idea where I saw it but it is out there somewhere on the net :)

I actually did do that - but I just didn't like that it wasn't there "by default" considering it is I,D. software we're talking about here! :p

32-bit OS could be the issue.

Have you tried it with a x64 one?

It's nothing to do with 32/64-bit, it's an OpenGL game and there's only a 32-bit version of it anyway. Just uninstall your Catalyst drivers and try a different version, eventually you'll find one that works, trust me.

When i first installed Rage i could not get it to start it would just go to a black screen. Did a bit of googling on the problem and found out you have to turn off triple buffering in the open GL settings under gaming in the CCC. It then worked.
