Is the Premiership getting boring? And some suggestions to help

Pfft, money isnt the answer, clubs like Villa,Spurs,Toon, even Sunderland and Pompey have spent bags of money in the last few seasons.

LIke the idea of a quota of more English players, but tbh that is more of a helping the national team solution than a helping of the premier league.

Wage cap can never work, would have to be implemented world wide or knowing most players these days and their money over club ethos it would be random X national league with all the best players, simply because they are paying the most

The League is in our country, and our national side is being affected in a negative way because of this, the influx of foreign players is stunting the growth of our home grown players and our national side.

England will not win the world cup with things like this.
The ENGLISH Premier League, is more of an internation league.

It's an unfortunate situation that the Champions League is now the most important competition in the world of club football, not the actual domestic leagues*. It makes a ton of money, and that ton of money goes into the same clubs, who use it to preserve their CL status for next season, and so on ad infinitum.

Trouble is, I love the current format of the Champions League, and I'm not sure I'd want to restructure it.

*The league is obviously still important to all clubs, it's just the CL is the showpiece.

Adopt a system a bit like Rugby. Firstly a wage cap and maybe a bonus point for scoring more than 4 goals and another one if you lose by 1 goal. Make a draw worth 2 points.

Exactly.

I would personally restore the old European Cup format (i.e. a normal knockout tournament a la the FA Cup) but only allow league winners in.

The argument against this is that you'll get teams like Dynamo Kiev (just an example!) playing Man U in the quarter final which according to some isn't fair as Dynamo aren't in the top 8 teams in Europe.

But isn't that the point in the European Cup? Teams from all over Europe? Furthermore, how are any of these teams supposed to improve if they don't have access to CL money + the chance to play top teams.

I think this is an easy solution to some of football's problems.

Too bad money talks....

I agree with you 100% take it back to champions from each league, playing champions across europe.

Too bad the champions league makes too much money to consider doing this :(

in a team of 11 players plus 5 subs (16 altogether) a minimum of 8 players should be from the UK (as in hold a british passport) and a minimum of 2 players should be under 21

this would sort out all problems

How would you measure attacking play though, shots on target or shots per game?

No, you would just do this:-

You remove the 1 point each in the case of a score draw.

It then becomes:-

Two points for an away score draw.
One point for a home score draw.

Turgid nil nils would still attract the one point each, or indeed you could have no points for a nil nil, mabye I shall look at some results and see what difference that would make.

Teams couldnt just turn up and shut up shop, and the big four throwing the kitchen sink at teams trying to break them down would lead to more open games.

Idd with this, but the situation is that if clubs need to stay up, then unfortunately they see the way of doing this is to buy in random foreigners who are older and more experienced rather than the young talent. When there is so much to lose clubs are unwilling to take any risks, rightly or wrongly however you view it.

Personally I would be fully in favour of having say, 8 of the 18 man squad being English as an example. But then you get into the murky areas of grand old European employment law (spit) where it is illegal to deny people a job because of their nationality, so how can we enforce such a cap?

Perfect world would be for everyone to be Man Utds, Evertons, West Ham hell even Boro and Man City to some extent who regularly bring through good young English talent and bring them straight into the first team. Unfortunately this is not a perfect world and nor or many clubs willing to invest such a large amount of time in youth players when there are quick fix soloutions out there (and the fact that any club out of the top 5-6 generally lose any decent players they bring through to the top clubs who then use them as bench warmers i.e. Sidwell, Parker amongst others but thats a whole different kettle of fish)

I hate the playoffs, in all leagues. Its rubbish. The team that finishes 3rd has played the best in the league over all the other playoff spots. Only to be missing out in a cup tie.

If your going to have a play off it should be 3rd bottom side in the EPL plays 3rd top side in the championship and so on. If your good enough to come up beat the EPL side.

Only the champions should play in the champions league and the other european comp goes to fa cup winners. I'd also then like both cups to be a straight two tie cup knockout comp. It drags on for far too long and some teams get through to the knockout stage without winning many games in the league section.

This year though has been the lowest standard I can remember for years. Probably will be much better next year.

The PL is brilliant as it is.
The same 4 just perm the top place each year but that happens in all the other major leagues in Europe pretty much.
It's widely regarded as the best league in the world now by fans, players, ex players, managers, pundits, the media and TV companies so why change it?

Think it's a little harsh to call Arsenal content with 4th, up until a few years ago they were challenging for the top spot every season, even last season (3rd, but only 4 points behind, could have been different) it's just this season which has been a struggle for a couple of reasons, and I wouldn't call the club content at the minute ..

Or how about like in rugby league, bonus points for winning/losing margins. Score 4 goals = bonus point, lose by 1 = bonus point.

arsenal are dropping off
villa are rising
the mid table teams are getting a lot more competitive
same teams always winning everything? Spurs won silver this year! hardly normal.

leave the PL as it is.
