There is an Xeon version of the Q9450, "X3350" (Yorkfield). This is hard to find but has been released.
For a different socket though.
so whats the difference?
Its called a Xeon X3350, its an Intel thing so they can track how many Uniprocessor servers they are selling.
3xxx Xeons are single socket rebadged Core2s
5xxx Xeons are dual socket
3xxx Xeons are single socket rebadged Core2s
5xxx Xeons are dual socket
Not quite the whole story. The microcode inside all Xeons, whether S771 or S775, is 'tuned' to enhance the Server Role they are designed for. They actually perform worse than Core2 Duo or Quads at gaming, video conversion etc.
