I also had a look at the S3 as well and there is a lot of things i had to spec to get to the ideal i wanted and it worked out a lot more than the equivalent spec R , albiet the S3 had leather as standard , but you had to spec parking sensors etc etc. The S3 is a nicer place to be for sure and better residuals than the R , but for me it was over my budget at the time.Going off course here but the interior of the current gen S3 is nicer than the current gen Golf R, having sat in both. There's not loads in it, but it's there. The S3 only makes sense when it's cheaper than the Golf. I got more money off the S3 than a similar spec Golf R. Both were new and with a 3 month + wait time.
