Is the VW Golf as good as the Audi A3?

Going off course here but the interior of the current gen S3 is nicer than the current gen Golf R, having sat in both. There's not loads in it, but it's there. The S3 only makes sense when it's cheaper than the Golf. I got more money off the S3 than a similar spec Golf R. Both were new and with a 3 month + wait time.
I also had a look at the S3 as well and there is a lot of things i had to spec to get to the ideal i wanted and it worked out a lot more than the equivalent spec R , albiet the S3 had leather as standard , but you had to spec parking sensors etc etc. The S3 is a nicer place to be for sure and better residuals than the R , but for me it was over my budget at the time.

Perhaps instead of theorising about the subtle details of a few bits of plastic trim a test drive might be more revealing. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Golf is reported to be dynamically more rewarding. I would hope so if the wife's 2014 A3 is anything to go by. It's quite numb and sterile. ( 184 TDI 4WD). I'd not have another A3, I would rather go back to the V40 I had before.

Rear sensors are now standard (though they should always have been).
