Is there a better finisher than Dennis Bergkamp?

Lineker was just great running off the ball, allways there, more often than not ball meets net.

Dennis though, complete forward. The guy was a powerhouse forward in his prime, and in the twilight, nothing but classy.

Touch, vision, total belief in what he doing, often a smile of disbelief when he'd pulled it off.

Ever a forward that 4-4-2 formation demanded, the first name would be bergkamp. Fortunate to have seen him play in the flesh a few times against forest.

Best goal he ever scored, the one against leicester, down, control, over the defender, shifts to the other foot, side past the keeper.

All skill, not a single bit of luck in it.

Batistituta by a country mile and some. Left foot, Right foot, Head it, lead the line and take an incredible free kick. Didn't have the finesse of Bergkamp or teh deft little touches but as an out and out striker he was one of the very best.

Bergkamp however is one of them players you would pay to watch. I still watch that goal against Newcastle and still think his legs and ball went one way and the top half went the other way. One of the best goals the Premiership has ever seen.

I actually think I turned Dutch the summer he scored that goal versus Argentina at World Cup '98!

The goal against Argentina is one of my favourite ever goals. The timing, the cross-field ball, the control, the skill then the finish. Unreal.

Shocked by the lack of mention for Ruud, best finisher I've ever seen at united

Aye, give the man the ball in the box and he pretty much invariably scored. 150 in 5 years is a perfect 30 average per season.

Very annoying in a 'what if' kind of way. Bergkamp apparently recommended to Wenger upon his arrival a new and upcoming Dutch poacher.

Van Basten probably, fantastic goals to games ratio and that goal against the Soviet Union in '88

Bergkamp is one of my favourite Arsenal players of all time though. :)

Watched an interesting documentary on Van Basten a few nights back on Sky Sports. Unbelievable talent tragically cut short aged 28. His goal scoring record was higher than his games played for a season in Ajax, which lead to his awesome performances for AC Milan. Very sad to see him leaving the pitch after the tackle that finished him. Seems he struggled with his ankle for years and he new the moment he received that tackle it was all over. The emotion on his face leaving the pitch is truly sad. That goal against Russia is probably the best volley I've ever seen.

Bergkamp was awesome. He had everything

Brazilian Ronaldo and Batistuta over Bergkamp anyday for me.
Batistuta back in his day was almost unplayable and Ronaldo was Ronaldo, Not to say Bergkamp was bad though. Loved watching him play.

Remember this?

He still has problems with the ankle to this day - he had to rule himself out of the running to replace Leonardo as Milan coach because of it.

Van Basten is one of my five all-time favourites and a joy to watch.

Dennis Bergkamp is the greatest player I've ever seen put on an Arsenal shirt, a replica Bergkamp shirt is only signed shirt on my wall. He was a scorer of great goals, but not a great goal scorer if you get what I mean, he wasnt a fantastic finisher but he had something extra where he could create something amazing from nothing. People talk about the loss of Henry, the loss of Vieira, but Bergkamp is that one linchpin that we have never come close to replacing, he was good for 15 goals a season, he could carve a defence in two with his vision and passing. I always hoped that he would end up at Arsenal with a coaching role, hell maybe even a managerial one further down the line but it doesnt look like its going to happen.

Fantastic player, his signing led to the sucess that we had over the past 13 years, legend.
