Lower end models are normally on par with the FE (the cooler performance), but can be slightly better or worse, whereas mid tier models are better and upper tier models much better. I just have an issue with having to do that, it shouldn't be necessary. The connector design and Nvidia's apparent disregard for electrical rules just doesn't sit good with me with the 4090 and 5090.
But if that doesn't bother you, have at it. Sometimes I can overthink things like this.
It really would be better with the traditional connection, just seems more robust. As I said though, I can overthink stuff like this and others have no problem with needing current monitoring software to get a heads up. It does allow a user to avoid catastrophic failure so is definitely worth having. It's kinda similar to when you remap a car, you need uprated parts when going to certain levels. This software is there for those who need an uprated set up to deal with the power.You are totally right in everything you say.
The 4XXX and 5XXX cards are very poor design and the power connector is awful.
Nvidia could have designed the 5090 to use normal 8 pin power connectors, a 2 slot cooler the same size as a 1080ti and a TDP of 275W and it would only have been about 10% slower than the current card.
If people don't believe the above they only have to look at a Titan V, I still have one of these and it is tiny compared to a 5090.
