I have an MX518 and have had one for years, even now when asking which mouse to buy it is highly recommended, but it there a better mouse for FPS games even though everyone still recommends the MX518?

I am happy with my MX518, but I was wondering on other peoples opinions who may have used the MX518 and have made a good swap.

Not entirely on topic, but Ive never bought a dedicated gaming mouse, and I get on just fine.

Current mouse is by A4Tech (and X7-48). Paid £10 for it and the only reason I spent that much was because of on the fly sensitivity changes.

This mouse has taken to me Division4 in CS:S and I was due to go into Division3 in TF2 before I stopped playing competitively to focus on A2level school work.

Question is, do "dedicated" gaming mice make a difference? And does the MX518 have customisable sensitivity?

I ditched my MX518 a few years ago and have subsequently used a Logitech G5 and SteelSeries Xai. I'm still not convinced they are any better than the MX518 was - better tech perhaps but in terms of shape and usability of the buttons the MX518 is king.

Yes the MX518 has customisable sensitivity.

There probably are better gaming mice but they are usually more than double the price. The beauty of the MX518 is it does everything well at a reasonable price. They can be had for £20 to £25. There's no way you will find me splurging £65 on a mouse all the time that the MX518 exists.

Yeah, there are loads of mice better than the MX518, but the MX518 is so popular as it's a solid performer with a brilliant price/performance ratio.

My weapon of choice for the last couple of years has been the Razer Deathadder 3G. Fantastic piece of kit, but it's significantly more expensive. As with pretty much all PC hardware, if you want the best, you have to pay a lot more.

I have been using the MX518 for years. I did buy the Roccat Kone, and when it broke (many times) I used the 518 while waiting for the replacement. In fact the Kone is still broken but I must have spent almost £20 on postage getting it fixed, and they won't replace it with the new version so I'll just stick to the 518 for now.

Is the MX-518 claw grip or otherwise?

I find most of my movement is based around thumb and 3 fingers, palm just rests on mouse and doesn't really do anything

The MX518 is certainly the best bang for buck mouse, but that certainly does not make it the best.
Anyway, it's whatever people prefer themselves.

Have used a MX518, G500, G9, Diamondback, Copperhead and own a Deathadder 1800 currently and if it breaks i will be buying it again without a doubt.
The G500 would be my second choice out of what i have used so far, but it is all really down to the shape/size of your hands.

Also have the 518 and i find it to be a great all rounder. For games and Photoshop you have the option to alter the sensitivity at the touch of a button and side buttons are great for going back forth whilst browsing.

it doesnt sit well with everyone, i dont think any mouse does really (even the rats) but its got the right amount of buttons and it's still consistently up there with the leaders in terms of tracking and accuracy and for the money, nothing touches it imo. My g9 is better, but its not > twice the price better.
