1) Being in space
2) Being on one of those high altitude flights which dip up and down constantly

Does anyone know a makeshift DIY home jobby way of getting the same effect?

Anyone who finds a way gets a gold star delivered on a sheep skin blanket.:)

Only thing I can think of is a few rollercoaster rides, namely at alton towers but can't remember WHICH lol. I "think" its oblivion where you get a second or 2 of it but thats the best your gonna get really. The next best thing to proper zero g would be one of the sky diving practise turbine engines where you wear one of those weird suits and basically float on the air above the engine so you can do your moves etc.

No.

If you do find a way you'd make millions selling it as a ride.

I reckon you could get close to the feeling but not exactly. I've thought about this too and how I'd make it.

If you had a merry-go-round with seats facing outward to the direction you were spinning you would feel like you were about to come out the seat because you are facing outwards from the direction of the centripetal force. You'd still feel mavity holding you down though. I reckon if you angled the seat down at the right angle for the speed it was spinning and slightly in the direction of spin you could get close to the point that the reaction between you and seat was almost zero and it should disorientate you enough to feel like you're weightless.

What you're trying to do is the opposite of sitting in a gyro, like one of those fairground rides that stick you to the inside of a big wheel, but also trick you into not feeling mavity.

Otherwise you've got to get a flight in a light aircraft and pull a few loops or stall turns if you've got the stomach for all that :p

Id love to have a go in one of them aircrafts :) They look soo much fun

I really doubt there is or people would do it all the time...

one of them giant skydiving simulator Fans where you float above it ?? Might feel a bit like it who knows??

The thing is, it's quite an unpleasant feeling (imo) and prolonged it makes most people vomit. I used to be able to take about 45 minutes of light aircraft flight before I started to spew and the acrobatics would trigger it at the snap of a finger :D

The Magic Carpet ride at Alton Towers when it comes downwards feels pretty much the same as weightless.

true... I was thinking more along the lines of reaching maximum velocity. However you'd still feel the falling sensation but not the acceleration. Make sense? I'm wrong either way :p

Yeah actually, it's easy. All you have to do is use a multi-phase Kermenyakov device to generate an inverse graviton flux array and mask that over the Earth's own mavity at a local level. The two gravitational fields cancel out, and Bob's your Auntie.

Easy.
