Is there a way to run 2 routers in the same network wirelesly ?

Yes. I cheated though as I bought a wireless extender which goes into the correct mode by selecting an option. Not all routers will support this method of operation.

Yes. You can run one router and switch the other into access point mode. That way you will probably get the functionality you want without network problems etc. DHCP should be switched on only on the one acting as the router of course.

Crossover cable, from the main routers built-in 4-port switch to each additional routers built-in 4-port switch.

Switch off the dhcp server on each additional router.

Aren't most devices auto-sensing now, or is that just the Pc's NIC? I would have thought a straight through would work if Router to PC works via a straight through.

:)

ok , i have it set up using a ethernet cable , going from the one routers ethernet into the other routers ethernet , but is there a way to do this wirelessly ?

Depends what you want. Bridge? Repeater? Extra access point (different SSID)? Additional access point (i.e. same channel, same SSID - devices will automatically switch to the strongest signal)?

Need to know what you're trying to do before people can give you specific instructions.

the reason PC->Router works with a straight-through cable is because the ports on the router are actualy layer2/switch ports and the router interface is internal.

Because you are going from the switch ports of one router to the switch ports of another router, you need to use a crossover cable - unless M-IDX is enabled on one of the switches (which it probably won't be).

A crossover cable is the same as a straight-through cable at one end but at the other end rx+ and tx+ are swapped around, and rx- and tx- are swapped around too.

But yeah basically like m4rkw7 says, switch of DHCP on the daisy chained routers and only leave DHCP enabled on router providing the internet connection (i.e. the actual gateway). All disay chained routers effectively become a layer2 wireless access point then and perform no routing.

Hi forum I have read this and this it what i want to do sort of,

Can someone advise if the below is correct,

Im getting 100mb super hub installed on friday which will be the main modem/router
I want to connect my current netgear WDNR3700 to this super hub so as to keep my original wireless settings for all my devices,

The only thing i need to change will be the existing routers ip address???

Does that sound about right

Cheers

If you connect one router to another router like that then you will need to enable RIP on them both so that return traffic goes back through your wi-fi network.
