Is there anything wrong with drinking tap water?

I drink bottled water here in sheffield cos the tap water is disgusting. Tap water whem I'm in Bristol

I love Manchester's finest. The tap water is superb. I drink litres of it each day.

I'm sure there was a poll a while back trying to find the best tap water in the UK and good ol' Manc won.

If you start to read about the Nazi's and Communist Russia and the link to the fluoridation of water, you may feel differently about drinking it...

get a filter....

Mind control? Making the working masses docile and suggestable?

Thats not fluoride - thats beer :D

water back home home in scotlnd was an identical source to "Highland Spring", essentially highland sping on tap.

Here in CH ou tap water is essentially the same as Yverdon.

TBH, I much prefer the taste of tap water to botteled water. The only exceptions ar areas that are very chalky or have highly chlorinated water like Greece etc.

However, water anywhere in europe is perfectly safe to drink.

I don't like filtered water, from the tap theres a much better taste and it does you no harm.

These people who buy bottled water to drink at home, I think, you gonna filter and bottle your air next?

Never tried filtered water, don't see the point. You wouldn't buy bottled water then filter it :)

Yorkshire Water > * :)

My girlfriend is originally from Newcastle and apparently the water up north is horrid, So she used to take bottles of tapwater from here(In barnsley) Up north with her. Just because it tasted a lot nicer.

I think it's been clarified enough, But i'll add.. Drinking tap water is fine

Have to disagree - lived in newcastle all my life and tap water is about the only liquid i can stand on a regular basis. Its clear and has no real taste to it at all, which works for me.

Each to their own i guess :)

I don't drink the filth on tap here in Windsor. It comes out of the tap cloudy and warm and looks like effluent from a factory.
That sounds like it is more to do with the pipes in your house. You certainly won't get warm water straight from the mains, not in this country anyway.

I work in the Water Industry and tap water is 100% safe. The different taste you get greatly depends upon where the water is drawn from, this can also have an effect on the colouring/cloudiness etc. It is all treated to a standard which all Water Companies have to meet, Water Quality failures are fairly rare and are normally picked up at the Treatment Works before passing into supply. Only real other causes are if work's being done on the network on your area which can stir up deposits in the mains.

Glasgow water is really bad :(
I rekon its just water in/around big cities thats bad tho. All my housemates claim the water here is no diff from the water they get at home (Edinburgh + Dundee) but the water in Inverness is sooooo much better.

Don't know about Glasgows water but Dundee and Edinburgh have decent water, in the places I've drunk it but then back home in Edinburgh we have it coming from a relatively uncompromised source up in the hills rather than going through the normal mains system and it is the best tasting water I've ever had.

Water definitely does have different tastes but I'd trust it all to be safe to drink (as in meeting standards) although it might not look or taste so great.

Don't think anyones mentioned about the huge waste of transporting all this water from mountains in the south of france and the like + all the plastic bottles (something like a $1 billion year industry - enough to provide the entire world with safe water)

When our tap water is perfectly safe.

Never used to drink tap water at my parents place in Southampton as it had a nasty earthy taste.

The water in Pompey is at least drinkable when cold but really doesn't like being boiled. Tea/Coffee takes on a strange taste. I've recently started drinking fruit flavoured green teas and when drinking it anywhere but Portsmouth each mouthful has a lovely sharp twang to it. If I drink it at home then that twang just isn't there.

Don't like drinking bottled water at all, especially the cheap supermarket stuff Have heard too many stories about it being sat around in warehouses for months on end..I'd rather my water was fresh!

Filtered water tastes disgusting I find. Definitely something added to it. Tap water is nicer.

As for quality - well, safe as houses from the tap. The less processing the better.

I buy bottled water because I can't stand the taste of the stuff that comes out of the taps around here. Keep meaning to get a filter and see if it improves things.

Water from the tap up here is fine, tastes identical to any bottled water I've ever had. The water we have up north is hard water, when i go and stay at my aunties down south and have a shower with their soft water it makes my hair feel weird.
