Is there such thing as a "Mazda Specialist" garage?

I've just called a Mazda dealer for a price on my upcoming Mazda 6 service - £673.84 :rolleyes: This includes:

Removing injector pipes to check valve clearances - these can only be fitted once, so need to be replaced @ £37 + VAT each;
Oil + filter;
Air filter;
Pollen filter.

Are there proper "specialists" who can do this? Mazda have an "electronic service record", so I guess if I get this done somewhere else other than a Mazda dealer, I'll have to keep a record of the servicing myself... ??

How old is it?

Any good mechanic can do these basic tasks, don't need to be a Mazda specialist.

OEM parts might tsill be pricey as they come from Japan as Mazda dont have a Euro distribution center.

It's a 2009, coming up on 72K, so I want to keep service history, but £673!!?? They can do 10% off, but it's still over 600 notes....

That does seem steep to be honest no reason why the bottom three should be more than about 120 with labour and the top one while fairly costly as you say doesn't amount to 500+

Another way of looking at this is that there is no way in hell that you getting this done in a "run of the mill" place is going to loose you the "likely" difference in price between the two quotes you will get.

I'm going to guess this is a £350 quid job in an indie.
You won't loose £350 come car selling time.
Its still service history, It's just not Mazda service history. Which to be honest, It's not an M3, If I'm looking at a run of the mill Mazda 6 that's second hand I'm more looking to see that there is history at all.

I'm in a similar situation. Mazda 6 2.2d but they want £714 for the seals, inspection of chain and the standard service. Recon a indie would be able to do it for me instead at a cheaper price? Would any old indie do it or do I need to find one which would be able to work on Mazda's?

Why didn't I keep the land rover so much more practicable when it came to servicing, just choose the right sized hammer and apply persuasion.

Ouch that seems pricey. Checking the valve clearances isn't a quick job but the price quoted seems excessive. According to the Mazda 6 workshop manual the injector pipes can be removed 5 times without issue. If removed for the 6th time then they need replaced. Only part that will need replaced doing this is the cam cover gasket.

Any good indie can do it, they are a simple mainstream car not a complicated one off car. The only issue that might occur is them not knowing the valve clearance figures for the car, but you can ask them if they know he specs beforehand, am actually surprised they have a solid valve train, would have thought they'd be hydraulically actuated!

I called another dealer at the end of today, and they again priced it at about £680. When I started asking what the service entailed, I was transferred to another member of staff who said they could do the service without the physical valve clearance check for £339. For that, they would listen to the valves as "they would be able to tell if they needed doing".

I'm sure I can get the proper service from an independent for less than that....

There are Mazda specialists, there's a few down here near Reading but obviously that's a bit too far for you. As others have said, can't see why you wouldn't just go to an indie.

Random thread resurrection but mine's coming up to this service too...
£780.25 inc vat or as you suggest without valve clearance check's for
£405.25 inc vat.

That's from a dealer I guess. Another one (Turnbulls in York) quoted more, I think...

Does anyone know of any indy garages around Harrogate/York that might be able to do it.
I don't plan on getting rid of the car for as long as I can keep it running without spending a fortune on it every month.

Where'd you end up taking it mr nicks? (if you're still around)
