Is this a dead pixel?

Hey folks just got the OcUK value 19" Hanns-G widescreen monitor today and as this is my first ever TFT I'm not sure but I think I have a dead pixel. It seems to always be red, its most noticable against a black background, but is still visible if you look against other backdrops. Here is a picture I took of it (had to cover the swearies in the guys xfire name :p):

This is really frustrating as I noticed it the instant I booted up windows, can I return it and ask for a replacement?

Cheers.

dead pixels are black, red means you have a stuck pixel. Try rubbing it gently, sometimes i can work and bring it back to life.

I have just recieved the very same monitor and it seems I have a very similar problem to yourself except mine is always stuck on green except on white and yellow where it seems to be the right colour .. any advice anyone?

Thanks
Adam

More down to luck iirc.

On my recently bought monitor I had no dead or lazy pixels, few hours in a green lazy popped up, was flickering around, so i poked it a bit and it went away. :)

Loop 3dmark or loop a fast paced movie for a few hours, might solve it.

Most companies wont replace a screen with a dodgy subpixel, but i dont know whether you might want to ask?

someones coming out or something to have a look , would running a looping screensaver or something work?

Glasgow Titan how you getting along with yours?

Still the same, ever since I switched it on its been like this, When I view a pure white background eg google page its fine and goes white, but anything else and the wee blighter stays red. It would be ok if it was tucked away in a corner but its pretty much in the centre at my eye line. :(

AFAIK viewsonic are the only company that will apart from ones that sell class I products (to the army/hospitals etc.)

Yup same here 'cept mine is Green my Dad rang OCUK and they gave us the number for Hanns G apparently theyre gonna come out and test the panel and either replace/fix the monitor, Ill keep you posted on what happens.

have the same problem on my 17 tft that i bought 6 months ago (not ocuk one), never thought to try and get it replaced but it's never been in a position that bugs me. My new WS 2025 thankfully had no dead / bugged pixels.

"White" is what you see when all three subpixels (Red, Green, Blue) are on
If the green subpixel is "stuck on" you will see it being green on a black background. "Yellow" I think is a combination of Green and Blue light, so this would explain why you see that okay. Light's a tad different to mixing paint ;)

Thanks for the explanation , would explain why it works on certain colours and not others. I have tried all the tricks to unstick it but it wont budge ... anyway looks like there is a replacement on its way :D

there is a program is there not that someone made that can fix "lazy" pixels, cant remember where i saw it but there is definetely a program which does say that it can help solve this problem

dunno if this actually makes sense but you could try make a gif that alternates between all-white and all black every 100ms or so and leave it running (don't look at it if you're epileptic of course ;)) Might just manage to get a pixel or sub-pixel circuit working. Or make a gif that switches just the affected area of your screen between Black and White so the rest of it is not being stressed. The cycling might just kick the circuit into action if you're lucky. Of course if it's a bad circuit it might just trigger another one to die but that's less likely.
