Is this a fair replacement?

Try squeeze a 580 out of em. :P Tell them this thing has lower VRAM and memory bus and that you play games like BF3 which top it.

Wow, the 570 is not even an SOC. It's an OC. It's got lower clocks than that 480. It will be slower.
 
To be honest I bought the GTX480 SOC for its clocks & cooler.

How do I get in touch with Tech Support other than the email listed on their website?
 
Did you pay rrp, or was it one of the ones on offer here at OCUk last year?

Doesn't matter what he paid it's reflective of how much use he had and the market price at the time of purchase not the bought price.

To be honest if you've had the card six months i think they have been generous to give you the 570 OC

? A card should last longer than 6 months. If it didn't then all things being equal its either defective or not of merchantable quality.

Unfortunately the graphics card market don't work like that though. They don't make the 480 SOC anymore so need to find a suitable replacement

a £281 replacement is perfectly acceptable i really don't think they are going to send you a £399 replacement card.

If they did every man and his dog would be killing gpu's with some overvolting so they can simply send it away 11 months later to receive the latest tech.

Logitech made this mistake and because of the people who made false claims they've changed there polices.

If you bothered to read my first post, it more or less said what you have put to me.

I'm just curious if the op bought it on OCUk's offer price as he got a half price card in the first place, which was less money paid than the current price of the replacement.
 
Unfortunatly I think as tommybhoy alluded to your options here will probably be either to accept that card or take a refund (of probably less value) thats been adjusted for the useage you've had of the card (which is perfectly legal for them to do). No harm trying tho.
 
I had a similair situation with xfx. My gtx 280 died after 11 months. Paid £270.00 for it when new. I was initially offered a £123.00 refund from the retailer, haggled with them until they eventually replaced the card with a gtx 275, (which lasted one day). Eventually got a working 275.
 
Email them very nicely and say while you appreciate the card and generally it would be a fair upgrade, that in your case your system was already feeling the limitations with the vram you had and having less is now more of an issue, Suggest a 570 2.5gb version or a 1.5gb 580, failing that a 6970 could be an option but you will probably find it slower in most applications regardless of its 2gb vram. If I could choose out of all of those it would be a 2.5gb 570 :) Make sure you mention you require a cooler similar to the one that it replaces also as noise is important to you.

It isn't a case of the "graphics card market" - If the card failed within 6 months he would be entitled to reject it under the sales of goods act.

There are two options; pursue it with the retailer under the SoGA or to make a warranty claim from the manufacturer.

To claim from the retailer - If the goods are less than 6 months old, it is up to the retailer to prove that the goods were not faulty when purchased, and the retailer is required to repair or replace so long as it is not "disproportionately costly" i.e. usually doesn't cost more than the original price, so you would be entitled to a card that costs at retail the original purchase price.
If the retailer claimed that it was caused by high voltages, if the card was less than 6 months old, the presumption would be that it wasn't caused by a user error, and the retailer would have the burden of proving it was.

If there is a warranty from the manufacturer then the basis of the entitlement depends on the wording of the warranty.

If you paid by credit card, you also have a claim against the credit card company under the SoGA who are jointly and severally liable with the retailer - you should notify them as well as they might just refund you the cost ;-) without much further enquiry._

I'm only being realistic in what I have said in my posts, in regards to the presumption that it was indeed bought for less than £250.

Gigabyte will indeed know how much was paid for the card due to requiring the original invoice to deal with the rma process(whether the op want's to divulge this information or not;)).

In which case if indeed it's one of the 'cheap' ones, he's better taking the replacement.

No matter what we all say or think what the card should be replaced with, it's entirely at the discretion of Gigabyte to hand out a card of greater value, which I doubt they will, again this is in regards to being a 'cheap' one.

There is no harm in trying though, just remember to be very polite as you'll get nowhere being arrogant or demanding with them.

It might be better to just sell on the replacement 570 and put the money towards a new card. To be fair the 570 is probably worth more than the 480 second hand anyway.

As I have stated, I'm presuming it's older than six months as it was one of the cheap ones which went for as low as £200 at one point here on OCUk, which makes the replacement offered the best option.

As coupe69 since pointed out, that's probably the op's best option right now.
 
Sent them an email explaining that the 570s' lack of memory and out of the box clocks made it in my opinion not a suitable replacement. I requested if it's possible for them to send me the same card as I was using this card in SLi. My SLi setup is essentially useless now.

I got response very quickly, Someone will look in to it & contact me tomorrow.

Card number 2 was bought @ the cheap price.

The plan was to make this setup last
