Right, inspiration from the other thread going around, I really want to know if my area is made up of idiots or I just don't know what I am doing!

Please advise...

Green is me.... Red is person cutting me up..

We come up to a roundabout after a dual carriageway, I get into the lane shown with thegreen line and dont indicate till I have passed the first turn off.

The regular idiot comes in the red line of path and comes on my inside and then attempts to indicate and pull infront of me at Yellow, forcing me into the verge or to slam brakes on!

Who is in the right lane and what should I do to counter this? :)

EDIT - I am working my way from the bottom towards the yellow at the end (top left) which is a single lane traffic road

Often there would be a little arrow as you enter the single carriageway suggesting drivers "merge in turn" therefore neither of you was in the wrong.

hmm, I will check this tonight... can you please post an image of the sign for guidance? :)

either syas merge in turn, or just a curved arrow.

If it's merge in turn then neither is wrong.

what is wrong and should be points and fine is when people que in the roundabout, when there is a merge in turn sign. The reason many roundabouts have a short two lane exit is to keep the roundabout free, so other people can get past. It would cut a lot of traffic jams if people realised this.

That's the roundabout you come to at the end of the A44 isn't it?

People do that to me all the time - maybe they don't realise the road isn't dual carriageway if they don't know the area or something?

I have this every day on my way to work, people get in the right hand lane at a 4 exit roundabout and cut me up, well try to cut me up..;)

Seems acceptable to me unless theres markings at the entrance to the roundabout that suggest that the right lane is for right-turn only

But with unmarked roundabouts, like the one above, the left lane is for people going left and straight over, the right hand lane is for people turning right and going back the way they came... IMHO the guy who cut you up is wrong.

thats the way im looking at it too...

Ditto, although if they're used to fast duel carridgeways with roundabouts like the a1 (2lanes on and 2lanes off) that may be an excuse. But they're still in the wrong.

There'll blatantly be some sort of signage before the roundabout though, there always is.

There isn't any signage if it is the one I think it is...

Mr Olly is correct, we are thinking about the same roundabout... ;) just outside our homeland of woodstock

I hope your right, it's what I was taught when learning

Depends entirely on the signage on the entrance to be honest, anything less than a merge in turn sign (which I've never actually seen to be honest for a roundabout exit) and he's cut you up.

Roundabouts up here will tell you what exit is applicable to what lane as you approach it.

Jokester

This roundabout doesn't have (iirc) any signage... I will go check tomorrow or something, adamant that I am being cut up!

1 divided by 2 doesn't go LOL

I think the right lane entering the circle is to be used for going straight on when theres a queue of cars turning left.
Either signage indicating whos right or you in the left lane is right as if someones overtaking they SHOULD figure out if they can overtake or not.

It definately doesn't have any signage, unless I keep missing it every time I drive past it!

thats what I thought... you end up in a sitation (well i do!) where I am driving int he faster right hand lane past traffic and then move in on good time ready to go straight over... then some muppet comes up on your right and cuts the queue to go across by about 5 cars and then cuts you up.. :(

Lets have a photo of the roundabout's sign.

In the absence of arrows on the road, if the exit is shown as >_180* then he's right. If it's shown as <180*, you're right.

Although the rules in the highway code around roundabouts have changed about a fair bit.

Surely that's >180 he's right and <=180 he's wrong...
