Hey guys....

Yesterday, my mums car gave out on her, now we woke up this morning and she said to me that she wants to use my car and all she has to do is go fully comp on her insurance on her other car and she can drive mine... now my car already has an insurance policy out on in for TPFT, doesnt that make it illegal for her to drive my car if she isnt on my policy, I remember reading on here once that it is illegal to have more than one policy out on one car.

she's probably 3rd part on cars she does not own, she can drive them with the owners permission.

I dont think your insurance will come into it unless she takes it with out permission

No she is TPFT on her current car as she has only had her licence 18 months...

Don't take anything for granted - check the small print first! Driving without insurance cover is seriously bad news!

Check her insurance certificate, it'll tell you there. If it's not listed that she can drive other cards with the owners permission then assume she isn't covered!

Failng that phone the insurance company.

Jokester

im fully comp and i cant driver others cars..

so its defo not automatic that you can

check with her insurance company as said

How old is she?

DOC extension (TPFT cover for other cars) is almost certainly NOT included on her policy if she is under 25, regardless of whether she is insured comprehensively or not.

I doubt she's under 25 given that he's old enough to drive and she's his mum.

But equally, cover isn't automatically granted, she'd have to check with her insurer.

i'm 23 and i have DOC extension so it's not impossible :)

I believe most, if not all insurers are phasing out DOC cover over the next year or so. I know of a few people who have had DOC for a number of years, and all of a sudden - it's not on this years renewal.

I find this really wierd. When I was 18 I was able to drive other cars but haven't been able to since. Everyone round here assumes that if you have fully comp ins. you can drive another car. I hate to think how many people are driving with no isurance round here now :(

I've always had fully comp insurance and it's always been specifically excluded

If you have TPFT it's very very unlikely that you can drive other cars, regardless of age. I've only known for this to be included with fully comp policies

Go to http://www.dayinsure.com. You can buy fully comp short-term cover from £10 a day from them
