is this legal?

Thought i'd have a bash on BF2 last night, but the tiniest scratch on the CD means it fails during install..

is it legal to download an ISO from a torrent site? if i own the original game/cd key etc?

Is it multi-cd version or DVD?

My play disc is scratched but the others are ok so if yours isn't the play disc I can send you a replacement for nothing.

I beleive some high street shops do a service for about £2 a disc i think, thats if you dont really want to use the toothpaste method lol.

Or you could ask a friend if you can borrow the cd.

Well I can say I've done it for other software not just games, at the end of the day you've paid for it

if you install if it from a mounted image when you come to play the game would it not look for the game_disk being on that drive ie D:/ ?

i use to have two DVD drives and if i installed it on the LG i had to use that to run the game not the pionner ?

If you run the Image using a program like Daemon Tools then you assign a drive letter to the disc image/program and the game treats it like a physical dvd-drive.

You can run the game from any dvd drive you like after you've installed it. You install to the HDD not the DVD drive.

well, i live on an island so a shop repair is out of the job, and no one has it here! it's the DVD version, though really appreciate the offer :)

If you say it's just preventing installation, you could install it from disk image on hard drive using your CD key, then you could use your real CD to play the game. I had to do this with Dungeon Keeper II. Disk was ruined to install, but was ok to play.

Edit: Just realised you said the same thing.

^^ It's also handy to know too - for when it happens to you.

Another argument "For" Steam.

There is a Mini Image you can download which bypasses the cd check, i use a retail version (real cd) so its not illegal.

saves you having to put in the disk all the time to play, as long as you have the game installed of course, and it doesnt get affected by punkbuster.

still good for anybody who doesnt want the disk in all the time.

It's definitely illegal. You buy a disk and a license to use the software on that disk, you don't buy a license to obtain the software by some other (illegal) means. The only legitimate way of getting the software is to contact the publisher for a replacement or buy a new copy.
