Is this possible

For an alternate viewpoint.

My Vertex 3 has never given me any problems.

Have even put latest Firmware on without fail. Not sure why so many people have issues with them, either I am lucky, there are very specific configuration issues (Hardware mixes) or an inherent issue with some drives.

Cheers for your comments. Intel is looking a decent bet but what do you guys think about the OCZ Vertex 4? I know it may be to early to tell but I see they now own Indilinx or something so that it is all in house.

Not had any issues with present firmware drives and we're talking 10's of em.

My Vertex 3 caused hangs moving on to blue screens over time (i.e. the problem got worse as time went on). I tried it on three separate motherboards, Asus P8H67-V, Intel DQ67EP and ASRock Z68 Extreme 4 (Gen 2). All three had the same issues with the drive and turning on hotswap made very little difference.

From reading the forums at OCZ it seems to be specific drives that have the issue and for a lot of people, flashing to newer firmware does not correct it.

I may try flashing my drive as it is a secondary unit at the moment in my PC and if it proves to be stable I can use it in my HTPC :). I would still stay away from them though as I do not believe people should have to flash a SSD to get it to stop hanging a computer out of the box.

From reading, and no personal experience, it seems that if the brand is not known to fail, then for everyday use, you would not know the difference between the same generation (different brands) of SSDs.
Things I would look for, would be a balance between the cash I would be prepared to splash out, against: Warrenty, known (un-)stability and size.

It seems to me that all the disks tested here http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18368624 All works just fine, and only benchmarks would tell you their difference, and then ofcourse warrenty and service of the companies selling them.

And I can see people are already giving your their experience on reliablity.

Pupular setup seems to have one SSD for OS and most commonly used programs and a big HD for storage/backup.
