depends how important the 5 clients are :)

for me at the very least I trade off a better price and offer more memory and resiliant storage. half the vlues you listed above have no bearing on most people signing off on a PO

try and make as many USP's (unique selling points) as you can, justify the extra expense and thing about why the benefits you are suggesting will add value to your particular customers infrastructe.

not teaching you to suck eggs just giving you my honest opinion

why not go for the cheap HP's on the markey atm? built in raid etc so you could do some nice stuff with them

For £140 it is a good deal but we have no idea what the quality is like. Stick two raptors in there (RAID 1!) and you should be fine, at least on paper. Make sure that you buy ECC DDR and not the regular stuff.

The server will only have a max of 5 clients attached and out of these only a max of 2 will ever be using SQL.

I was thinking of adding another 2GB of ram to it as well as 2 hard drives.

It's £119 inc shipping.

Raptors may be overkill but i suggested them for scalability and the fact that they are server class drives. You could look at some of the single platter drives that are around now now such as the HD322HJ.

Wouldn't go for Acer. In 2 years when *** hardware breaks, getting it fixed will be a nightmare. Stick to HP if you can, always spare parts available for them.

Built two today, 4 raptors, two mirrored pairs, os on logical drive 1 and databases on drive 2. reliability hasnt been an issue in any of the machines built and run in the past 6 months so far.

The problem I had was finding somewhere which sold the drive caddies put the HD's into. So sent it back and have gone for a ML110 G5 instead, not quiet as quick processor but still a decent spec and runs VMware out the box unlike this thing which uses an LSI Software raid controller.

I've gone for the acer and upgraded the memory to 3GB. I'll let you know how it goes!

Yuck I worked installing acer servers for 5 years I hate them... sell it on ebay when you get it and buy somethign else (not very constructive i kno)

From having one of these, briefly, the only thing thats acer specific is the case and the bios logo. The board is a Gigabyte, CPU and Cooler are Intel stock, PSU is and FSP the big problem is the case as it has custom drive mounts for 5 1/4 and 3 1/2. If it had supported VMware out the box I would have stripped the bits and stuffed them in a different case, but as it didn't I got the ML 110 G5 instead.
