Is this SSD good?

Traditionally OCZ drives have reliability issues mainly to do with firmware, however the agility 3 is quite mature now and should probably be alright.

The agility series are mid range drives, significantly faster than any mechanical HDD but still slower than some other SSD's. If you tell us your budget then we might be able to suggest a better alternative.

Edit: The other thing is the agility 3 uses a sandforce controller, something which I personally would avoid, especially as there are enough alternatives around now

I'd probably be looking to spend around £120 cheers.

Up to that price point the following are some of the best SSD's currently available:

Crucial M4
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-009-CR - a classic drive well regarded by many on these forums.

Samsung SSD 830
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-146-SA&groupid=1657&catid=2101&subcat=2103 - 830 - regarded as probably the most reliable SSD you can buy. It is no slouch in the speed stakes either.

Corsair Neutron GTX
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-040-CS&groupid=1657&catid=2101&subcat=2103 - neutron gtx - one of the very fastest sata 3 ssds around. Fairly new on the block but corsair tend to make reliable products so I wouldn't be too worried about reliability problems.

Corsair Neutron
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-038-CS - Much like the neutron GTX but with lower write speeds. In real world usage you will probably struggle to see the difference a lot of the time though

I could also mention the vertex 4 but I tend to avoid OCZ drives until the firmware has matured, and the vertex 4 is still pretty new.

Wait until the Vertex 4 128gb comes back into stock, fastest Sata3 SSD and 5yr warranty for £88

Okay, have you got this ssd? Just wanna make sure I buy a good one, only because I've never bought one before so know nothing about them really :)

Okay thanks, will consider all of these options plus the vertex 4 will pick the best that will suite me, cheers.

Yes I have, i've also installed one in a friends rig, rock solid, fast and 5 yr warranty, so peace of mind.

The new Corsair SSD's have pretty lame write speeds compared to the Vertex 4, and 6 months is pretty mature in the tech industry

My advice would be :

A) Buy on reliability first and price second. "Performance" makes little difference to most users, by which I mean nearly all 6gbps SSDs perform well enough (unless you're video encoding/editing, running a server, etc). For gaming, surfing and moderate workloads, you won't notice the difference.

B) Avoid SF-2281 based drives (from personal experience with the Intel 520, probably the best Sandforce-based SSD out there).

C) Work out what space you need, then double it. Most drives (especially Sandforce) slow down and increase wear (write amplification) as they fill up between 50-100%. Try and keep 40-50% free and/or assign at least 10% for over-provisioning.

Do you have a sata II or sata III motherboard if sata 2 may as well just get something like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HD-020-CR&groupid=701&catid=2104&subcat=1427 IF you don't have any plans on going sata 3 for a while if you are sata 3 I'd go with crucial or samsung better faster uk based rma service if it's ever needed Im not sure but i think sata 2 = you'll get around 250-290 mb sec and sata 3 up to 590 ish mb sec so as you can see a 590mb capable drive shall be bottlenecked on a sata 2 board

+1, except i wouldn't recommend ocz, besides the firmware issues, ocz also has a habit of swapping flash chips in its drives without drawing a lot of attention to it.

That's my MOBO

I think it's sata 3 :)

I'm swaying towards the intel 520 only for the fact the reviews I've read they're extremely reliable.
