Is this what life in the UK is about?

You were born here, but you describe another country as 'back home' which is it to be and why is it such a ludicrous idea that you might be more comfortable 'back home'?

I was born here but i left when i was one, I came back here 1999. If anything i feel more nigerian than British. There, Big deal.

And the ignorance meter goes off the scale!

What colour am I?
Where do I come from? Am I a financial/political immigrant to England?

Before you play the racist bigot card, check your facts.

You don't have to go to anywhere that you are ethnically linked to, you can go to Rockall if you like, but if you want a simple life, do it.

Hey, you can see i edited that post because i dont want this thread to go down that line. :)

Where are you feeling this pressure?

Im 34, married but dont have kids or own my own home and dont have any plans to do either. We live our own life and dont feel any pressure to do anything we dont want.

Well, i dont know exactly. Maybe it is because the way it is, maybe becaue people back home look up to you, maybe because those i knew when i got here have acheived more than me (in terms of material stuff without even working)......i honestly dont know maybe i am just pressuring myself for nothing afterall.

Thats probably it, you set your own boundaries for success - If that means 2.4 kids, a house, a car and a women whos an angel yet a devil in the bedroom then thats something your always going to aspire too. Nothing wrong with that imo but i prefer living for the moment and enjoying life rather than looking towards something that doesnt always appeal to me.

The finest mountain bike lube in the world, Pedro's MTB has the following written on the side of each bottle

Effort = Results

Words to live by.

My Grandmother scrubbed steps to buy my father and my uncle their school books. My Grandfather took any work he could and stopped smoking, drinking and gambling so my father and my uncle could go into the Merchant Navy as officers and would not have to waste time doing conscription. In three generations my family has gone from unbelievable (to me) poverty to unbelievable (to them) wealth.

I never met my Grandfather, but my grandmother was so proud of all us who achieved what they so wanted us to achieve. We all worked hard in one way or another.

Effort does equal results. If you want a good home life, put your efforts there. If you want to be a millionaire, then you have to work at it. I'm not a millionaire by any stretch of the imagination, but I more than likely will be.

Inflation will see to that. :D

You could just move to Bolivia...

Edit: oh, the Boliviano isn't quite the mess I thought it was. Perhaps Bolivia is out of the question, then.

Would you believe I've actually been to Bolivia and, while I loved the experience as an at-work tourist, I was VERY pleased to touch down in the UK again. I have been lucky enough to visit all five continents (I've never been to Nigeria though) and both ice-caps and I always like to come home.

There are nice bits about everywhere, but the UK is the best country in the world, bar none imvho.

[Edit]Just saw your sig, RobMiller, you should have just quoted that all along[/Edit]

[More Edit]Damn - it changes - the Camus was what I meant[/Edit]

I don't have an issue with the stuff you post, I just think that if I talk to you I will get an interesting answer... plus I quite happily back you up in other threads...

I think we are moving away from living a simple life to a very complicated one at this day and age (or this part of the world anyway). There's pressure to suceed academically, buy a house, do well in life, raise kids and pay bills (all sorts) for the rest of one's life. In contrast to certain parts of the world,(Third world mostly) people tend to live a simple life.

Sometimes i feel we are trying too hard - kinda like survival of the fittest. I sometimes wanna take a break but i cant it feels like a race man, once your stop people will take over.....

I think we are being pressured too much either one way or the other to succed and do well in this country and at the same times we are moving away from a simple life to a complicated ones.

I dunno whether to ask you guys to disscuss or just voice your opinion on it. thanks.
My conclusion is: we are never happy with what we have. By nature, most of us are just lazy, wanting to do less ;)
Don't get me wrong, I am hardly a role model myself. But if you think that life is rough in the UK... I take it you've not been to Asia. Or read much about it.

Read this article: http://www.time.com/time/asia/covers/501060327/story.html

For adults, 9-5 office hours is an exception rather than the rule. Now I sometime complain about "pressure" but I know deep down that I am better off than many.

I suspect that peasants in China may live a "simple" life, but I also suspect that none of us would really want that - and they certainly have their own share of pressure.
