Is TN hard to stomach?

Agreed, having tried both the IPS swift and TN swift. I prefer the TN swift. Sure the IPS has more color depth but its not massive. The thing I hate is the back light bleed, just horrid for movies and games in the dark which I often do at night.

I mean it doesn't make you go WOW, side by side.

The TN panel on the swift is a good one, I have 2 side by side and love them.

Had a chuckle reading the past handful of posts. I get you guys love your TN's, I really do but don't make them out to be as good or even close to the quality of an IPS as that is just blatant nonsense.

Lol in the politest way to ask, have you actually seen the quality of a panel on a swift for instance ??

Whilst photos are not a perfect representation please take a look at these

As I said in my first post whilst ips screens do have better quality still it's not all that night and day different as some of you guys will try and wrongly exadurate. Some people will be left thinking TN panels are simply grayscale and will actually produce a image comprising of colour to look like more than a greyish blob.

Editing or doing professional colour work then I understand the need to that tiny bit of extra colour. But I can't justify it after using my pb278q (calibrated) for 3 years before my swift there isn't that much of a difference for me to hate the quality of the swift.

:D it's always sad when people say something they have never seen is rubbish on the premise that it's not the thing that they have so it must be bad.

As a general take on TNs its not wide of the mark :S just not entirely accurate for some of the recent gaming TNs.

Though it might be totally wrong from what I've heard the panels in the Swift, etc. instead of being an evolution of an existing TN design (i.e. they didn't sit down and go lets make this 60Hz TN into a 120+Hz panel) was born out of development done with AHVA/HFFS like designs (its still very much a TN) i.e. someone realised there was some relevance to TN designs in work intended for other tech.

Not playing any sort of super cereal FPS games, has me leaning towards sticking with IPS. My usage is probably 50/50 between gaming and browsing/movie/TV show watching.

Watching movies on TN is horrible. You have to sit at the right angle and if you slouch the gamma shift turns the whole screen black.

I went from Tn to IPS and would never go back.

Yes I owned a Swift TN.

Having owned both I don't see how the newer TN panels like the swift are "nowhere near" IPS. Even some reviews have pointed out how good the colours are in comparison, viewing angles for me aren't a problem and I'd prefer not to have IPS glow when watching dark scenes in films/tv series, my swift has little to no backlight bleed as well.

Before saying stupid things, it might be better to ask. If you check the Swift thread you'll see my posts and thoughts about the Swift when I had it.

Sure but I struggle to believe it when you claim as blatant nonsense that a Swift can even come close to a good IPS panel - sure it won't match an IPS but it definitely comes close aslong as you don't mind the viewing angles.

Unfortunately I only have a horrid mobile phone camera with me and its hard to get an angle that shows both well but.

Sure the Swift doesn't quite have the warmth and saturation to the mid-tones - even that pic you can see that but even with the Swift at a worse angle to the camera its still not a million miles off.

Hmm, I've not noticed any back light bleed and this glow people talk of, I'm not saying it's not there but maybe I've just become accustomed to it.

I'd probably need a TN panel next to my current monitor so I could identify it.

I am seriously tempted by the g-sync Dell...

Might be worth looking around to see if anywhere has one on display so you can view it in person if your still on edge about buying :D

If you haven't used g-sync before you will be blown away.

I lost faith in TN panels when playing TLOU on PS3 and dark rooms just became unperceivable in the corners of the screen due to the poor viewing angles. I had to actually shift my head/view to see the corners. I suppose you could say that dark games are rare but it was enough for me to want to switch to IPS next upgrade.

I couldn't see loads of difference between the TN ROG Swift and an equivalently priced IPS ASUS panel, the model number of which escapes me. Whites were truer to a sheet of white paper on the IPS but if I hadn't been told what to look for I'd likely have remained ignorant. I get bored of hearing people parroting the "if you're doing colour sensitive work" line in favour of IPS panels. How many people buying these things are actually in graphic design? By the law of averages I'll wager it's not a huge percentage.

On the other hand the viewing angles of a 27" TN are quite disturbing in the way the image shifts when you approach the monitor and I can understand people who say they're very sensitive to it when sat down in front of one. My 19" TN monitors at work have much less of a problem with this and I suspect it's exacerbated on large screens.

Anyway I'm chuffed with the colours on my glossy VA. I'd love to see a few more screen choices with this panel type.
