Hi all,

We shop at our nearest Tesco Superstore for groceries etc. but I fancy a change in the food - getting a bit bored of the same old products, so was wondering if Waitrose is decent. I've heard it is quite expensive?

And I've just realised I've posted this in the motors forum instead of GD :D

It is not necessarily expensive, basic everyday items are pretty much the same price. It tends to have a bigger selection of high quality food, therefore it is easy/ tempting to spend more.

My favourite supermarket.

I remember a while back in a news interview an oldish man was being asked why he liked to shop at Waitrose and he responded along the lines of "Because a better class of people shop here"

Classic :D

Waitrose tend to be more expensive, and have a better selection of high quality stuff. They also treat their staff better, and their suppliers better.

I prefer to go to Waitrose as I can have a day out in Cornwall then (but have to pay 75p for the priveledge of leaving)

As Edward said, they have the same range of the normal fiidstuffs, but have a wider range of higer end, higher quality products. Great fruit and veg and the meat in there is really good.

You could always try Ocado if you just want to see what their stuff is like as they are he online delivery wing of Waitrose.

waitrose is a much nicer place to shop, a lot of it is expensive though but they still have the same crap your find in tescos etc (given that its all the same food anyway - own branded stuff that is)

i think tescos have much more choice though.

A mate of mine who lives in the city reckons for own brand stuff like for like Waitrose is the cheapest out of Tesco, Sainsburys and Waitrose.

They have a wider selection of nicer stuff which can be expensive. I don't think this means that they are expensive as a store, though, if that description is used in a negative way. Their basics are pretty much the same price as other supermarkets.

Regarding the fresh produce I find it varies across stores. The meat in the Wokingham store is crap, Tesco has a much better selection and the quality is also better.

Waitrose are way overpriced imo, agreed they have some better food stuffs than Tesco, though Tesco still has a lot of better food stuffs, price and quality than Waitrose.
