Is Warhammer Online better than WoW?

never understood why people get some worked up when it comes to defending the games they play.

no idea why people dont just accept that some people enjoy one game more than others.

I personally played wow for 2.5 years, and ill never deny that its brilliant. But I also really enjoy Warhammer too. Why do people get so defensive over something that wasnt even made by them

Human nature I guess, people want other people to agree with them, and to like the same things as them, in order to somehow justify their own choices. Its what happens when we repeatedly breed generation after generation of sheep instead of promoting individual thought.

Causes people to repeatedly harp on and on about how poor something is (in their opinion) in the hope that it will make other people agree with them, so that they can then feel secure that they have made the "right" choice themselves, instead of merely being happy with their own choice. Probably boils down to insecurity issues and low self esteem :)

WAR is fun. You can partake in meaningful PvP right from the off. WoW is a grind and that is all really.

So tenderly worded, yet devastatingly brutal. Love it. Shame the poor kids who should really take note of it will dismiss it as "nerdy" or "lolz roffles" etc etc

Its the kind of thing you wish you could save to drop on them 10 years down the line, so they look back at their life so far and cringe.

From my experience having played both, WAR is the better game for casual and solo gamers. I haven't experienced anything high-end in WAR yet, but it has been pleasant to be able to level via PvP battlegrounds, and mix it up with solo questing and the Public Quests. The open group system makes it really easy to find a group when you want to.
Theres also an absolute ton of info in the Tome of Knowledge, lots of interesting background to read about if you like to take your time and immerse yourself in the lore.

With WoW there always seemed to be a rush to level up, In WAR i've found myself taking it easier and actually enjoying leveling.

It remains to be seen how content is at max level, but for 25 quid including the free months play i think i've gotten my moneys worth of entertainment. Even if theres a lack of max level content there I currently wouldn't object to leveling a new char again as a different race.

nothing will come close to wow ever. mmo's will be good in different ways but i dont think anything will top what wow has become

WoW was fun for the initial run through, but the high-level grind, or 'end game' is the drollest pile of crap ever. It stopped being a game, and started being a pseudo-job that YOU paid for.

And for the record, I have not played WAR, I'm done with MMO's, I like having my life back :p

lol Warhammer PvP is better than WoW's? Poor combat system, horrendous balance, no decent competitive component. It's basically worse in every way.

Yup.

I find the Warhammer combat very dull and sluggish in comparison...

Edit: Oh and WoW is just getting better and better, the new Siege battles look fantastic.

WOW - that looks ace (hopefully you can sense my sarcastic side coming out).

Just a random running around swinging some kind of mashed up sword? What was that meant to prove? It looks absolutely awful especially in the, what I'm guessing now, is a desert place. That wasn't combat hell he missed the target most of the time yet did damage. I'm not saying WARs is the best combat ever (in fact I'd say none of the newer MMO's have decent combat) but it looks nicer than that. I'd also advise people not to put if full screen. God the guy who did that must have been dizzy as hell!

Well Im happily sitting on the fence, I have loved aspects of both wow and war, but that video just posted didnt really prove anything,

it looked like standard warcraft battle ground fare with some big machines to drive about on.

I dont even see why people are so desperately trying to defend warcraft. When i sold my account the other day i looked on my wow subscription.. I started in Febuary 05, so the game has been selling retail copies for 3.5years+.

Warhammer has been selling retail copies for about 3 weeks.

People should just accept that they didnt gel with the game, but also accept that its in its infancy and lots of people are enjoying it, so its not a bad game at all.

Cheers for the link...Looks bloody brilliant :D I do agree with the Warhammer comment, i think the pvp is shocking. Can't wait for Wrath :-) I think it will well and truely kill Warhammer, i mean WoW is already way ahead and atm WoWs not at it's best. Of course that is IMO, now come slate me Warhammer kids! hehe.

Indeed, looks fantastic. :)

That wasn't combat hell he missed the target most of the time yet did damage.

That's because Death Knights don't just do melee damage, plus you have to remember Death Knights have various DoTs too which is likely what you saw doing damage despite him missing.

I wasn't trying to prove anything, the combat is far better in Warcraft I think and that was all I was saying, the video shows the fast paced and fluid combat, that is all.

The new Siege stuff looks cool, breaking down a forte and what not to enter, looks great fun.

I think i might try War again a couple times during my free month, then probably wait a few months and see what its like.

The main question I have is will end game PvP work, by this I mean, if you're rolled Destruction, or Order on a specific server, in 3 months will half of one side leave meaning end game raiding, sorry, PvP battling, becomes impossible with one side guarenteed victory every single time with no chance ever of winning. Frankly, at the end of the day I want to win, I won't cry and be a sore loser if I do lose, but its pointless to start a battle you can't win ever, its just boring and stupid.

I really don't know how it will turn out, the balance early on seems to be people playing destruction heavily and all the scenario's so far in general seems to be Destruction side based and long queues finding a fight very very very often.

PvE content is horrifically poor, as is most of the gameworld I've seen so far, if all rests on PvP being any good. If I have to grind up to 40 doing things I don't enjoy I need to know I'm doing it on a server where people actually play , people aren't quitting left right and centre and that end game PvP(which really is the whole point at the end of the day) is going to be good.

in 3 months we might find that most servers simply never get close to having the city ransacked as you're stuck fighting over the same keep every single time not even close to either side "winning" , or that its so ridiculously easy for one side that they take the city every other day and the other side do nothing but die. Neither sound fun to me, even winning with no real opposition isn't going to be fun.

I don't know what people go on about tbh, time has no bearing on a game, games can get better, they can also get worse. Early on MMO's are often about appeasing the playerbase to some degree, then more often than not, the nerf's/balancing come in.

Lotro has mostly had that done the best, Hunters got nerfed but are better again, but most classes were balanced by increasing the power of other classes and increasing the effectiveness rather than nerfing class after class after class.
Lotro from day one was mostly bug free, smooth as anything, content top to bottom, easily the best looking MMO, ran great and had fantastic story all throughout, best designed world I feel and the most talkative and friendly community. WoW, though I had assumed it had been out for ages due to so many talking about it, I guess I played not that long after release and it played perfectly and feels the same then as now. I can't really speak to how it was the day of release, or 6 weeks after. But people do bring up the fact its 3 years old, it feels the same to me today as when I last played, almost identical infact, Lotro was essentially perfect from day one. Maybe that should be the benchmark for how games should be on release tbh. At the end of the day, they aren't going to massively change the way it looks, they aren't going to change the PvE that much I wouldn't think, they'd need to change from the first to the last quest if you ask me, get rid of the babying system, the only thing I expect will change is spawn rate and hopefully, spawn numbers and their spread because the world feels awfully crowded and non responsive right now.

I think one of the biggest things lacking is talking for me, yes lots of guilds talk all the time on guild chat, and I think the game is being really badly hurt for "casual" players by having far to many guilds joining the game with a large membership from previous games and them really not needing to talk to others. I think the teaming style, the open teams all hurt the hell out of that aspect because you don't even have to ask for help, even a basic hello is missing from most people. Even playing on teams, and PvP, it still doesn't feel like I'm playing an MMO. I could quite frankly be playing a single player game for all the player interaction there is.

I resubbed to WoW because I'm bored at the moment, not played for a couple years and only played for a couple months before that, surprised by how much I remember to be honest. I'm both impressed with it, and underwhelmed. It looks dated in terms of graphical features, but has a very well designed world. Overall look I put Lotro way way WAY out ahead, WoW 2nd and War 3rd. It might have newer effects and higher res textures(for some things) but it looks bland, dull and isn't a well designed or layed out world, considering its what 4 years later than WoW and a year and half later than Lotro I think it looks woeful for when it came out.

I can compare WoW to the lemmings and say WoW looks out of this world fantastic, but that doesn't mean now, today that WoW looks brilliant. Compare war or wow to Crysis and both look a joke tbh. While Lotro isn't up their with Crysis its leagues ahead of both, also, not a huge deal in terms of gameplay, has multiple options for making your character look different should you want to.
