ok maybe a silly question , but for sheer enjoyment in games and quirkyness , does the wii have what the xbox and ps3 lack ? ie more involment in games , (and also good for my wife to play !) honest opinoins

Honest opinion, The xbox 360 is the best console around simply because of its excellent games library and online features. You will soon tire of the Wii's limited game selection and gimmicky controlls.

Depends what you want from a games console really. For family fun, i can see why the wii is so popular. For anything else, it just doesn't stand up against the 360 or ps3 imo.

Wife will love it, but in my opinion - Wii is pants.
Rather get 360 with "Scene it - Lights camera action" for some family fun and still retain the option of a load of other titles you can play on the console.

Just my humble opinion, and I'm sure many people will disagree

Its all down to personal preference, if so many people are enjoying it and some people thinking it stinks then its pretty much pointless asking the question.

I have PC for FPS and is where i spend all my time (when im gaming), Wii is an alternative way for me to game and brings lots of fun, i dont play it all the time, now and then as when i do play it i enjoy every minute.

Well the sales figures seem to be saying what people want from a games system. And it is not cutting edge graphics so much, it seems to be 'fun'! ;)

so might i be better off with a ds lite for the wife?

Depends really, the Wii is great for co op modes, or multiplayer (also has some great single player games). DS has more single player focused games although it the multiplayer games are great and most only require 1 cartridge.

I would say whatever appeals the most and if she is into gaming, if she is not fussed about games then the DS would most probably change her mind.

The whole Wii sales thing is just a blip because allot of people who wouldn't normaly buy a console have bought a Wii because of the gimmicky control system and some clever marketing by nintendo. But these people will not buy the next big Racing, Fighting or FPS game on the Wii and ultimately the Wii will not be sustainable. Also if and when mainstream games do come to the Wii everyone will see that the worst version will be the Wii version. and will probably decide to get an xbox or ps3 instead.

I bought a wii for two games, Zelda and Mario. On the N64 at least it had rareware as well as Nintendo, but I cant see me buying much else for it in the near future other than metroid. No big deal to me, its been the same with Nintendo for the last few generations.

The 360 is probably the best bet at the moment, due to the sheer amount of quality titles available for it. The PS3 will be a good buy once MGS, GTA and GT5 are out of that I am sure!

Ive got a wii with loads of games, my wife's favorite game is scene it on the 360, followed by singstar on the ps3.

My daughters enjoy the wii, its good for kiddie gaming with the odd adult game thrown in for good measure.

Galaxy has impressed me far, far more than anything i've played on the 360 or PS3 (it's one of those games that seriously makes you wonder what other developers actually do with their time), and Wii Sports gets played most weeks with friends and family (which has been the case since launch). For these two games alone it was money well spent.

Twilight Princess and Metroid 3 were good, Mario Kart and Smash Bros. are just around the corner, and it's just a matter of time untill we get a new Pikmin, Pilot Wings, Zelda, F-Zero etc etc. I'd find it very hard to choose between the 360 and Wii, but couldn't miss out on an entire generation of Nintendo games - they're the best part :)

I agree with your point. It's a crime to not get a wii as you will miss a entire Nintendo Generation of top quality in house games. The only problem is that the top quality in house games are coming a lot slower now. The cube and the N64 had a lot more to boast in it's 1 year lifespan then the Wii and back then Nintendo Europe were beyond terrible with european releases. Nintendo have tryed new things with all their consoles (Loved the mini disks on the cube. Could carry 20 games to my friends house in my pocket) but always seemed to fall short somehow (Carts on the N64). They get it right with the Wii from a sales standpoint, which their previous two consoles didn't yet totally forgot what made owning a Nintendo gave. Awesome first/second party games which would be known as future classics to come. I wish shigsy and his crew would get off their beds made of $$$ and make some games!

I have all 3 home consoles and the PS3 and Xbox360 get far more use from me due to the games, but if there are some Wii games there you like then you can't go wrong.
Metroid Prime 3, Zelda, Mario Galaxy are all top games.
