is wii the best?

I've had my 360 almost since UK launch and had a Wii since August this year and as has been posted already, the novelty with the Wii soon wears off. It's good for something different if you have some mates over (Wii Sports) but I spent the majority of my time on the 360.

The Wii is selling strongly as a console but I believe the attachement rate for the 360 is far better, which is how the console manufacturers recope sellign a console at a loss (other than Nintendo).

goes away and plays some Bioshock, Orangebox , Gears, PGR4, CoD4 etc. and then thinks...............

i know what developers do with their time, and it's not making kiddy friendly games like Mario Galaxy, thankfully.

I have these games, and some are great, but none blew me away as much as Galaxy. Call it kiddy friendly if you like (bit of a cop out ;)), i'll call it the most creative and imaginative video game ever made.

Galaxy is certainly up there with SF2 and OoT and is one of the very rare games that reminds me why I got into gaming in the first place. Bioshock, Gears, CoD4 etc, as good as they are, didn't.

The Wii has only been out for a year, the 360 for two, of course the attachment rate is lower. Give it a chance.

Besides, as you point out - Nintendo are banking cash like crazy because they can sell a console at a profit. Technically speaking (and borrowing from Maddox) I made more money this year than Sony and Microsoft's gaming wings put together. Something to think about.

The whole Wii sales thing is just a blip because allot of people who wouldn't normaly buy a console have bought a Wii because of the gimmicky control system and some clever marketing by nintendo. But these people will not buy the next big Racing, Fighting or FPS game on the Wii and ultimately the Wii will not be sustainable. Also if and when mainstream games do come to the Wii everyone will see that the worst version will be the Wii version. and will probably decide to get an xbox or ps3 instead.

So basically you judge everything on graphics.

Even my Nans been playing the wii this xmas, id love to see her play mass effect on the 360 because the faces look real. :p

And yes i own a Wii and 360, the 360 is the better console (for me), however to say the wii sucks because the graphics arent good as the same games on the 360/ps3 is really quite idiotic. Wii's success is because its really fun, having the whole family playing playing tennis or bowling on a games console is hilarious, i'd take this kind of innovation over the project gothem racing 5 with its more shiney paint jobs and 1 new track!

I still don't understand why certain individuals find the Wii's success so personally offensive. Does it pain some people to realise that not everyone derives enjoyment and edification from first person shooters with complex graphics and derivative plots?

As for the 'kiddie-game' remark; it's ironic that it really only serves to prove how ultimately childish the person mentioning it is. Ho-hum.

I have all three consoles, bought the wii last december, the 360 in about march and the ps3 in early november
i rarely use the wii at all now
in fact i cant remember the last time i played on it
however you can bet that on xmas day it will be well used as we have lots of people round - its a great social console, kids and drunken adults love it but its more for casual gaming
I only seem to buy silly games like smoothmoves, cooking mamma and brain academy
any multiformat titles will be purchased on the 360 while the ps3 was bought more for blu-ray (and singstar! :D )

in short i think it depends on what you want from the wii
if you are a hardcore gamer then get a ps3 or 360
if you want the odd slice of family friendly fun then the wii is as good as it gets

I think the makers of all the 360 games you just mentioned would laugh in your face if you said that to them about Mario Galaxy.

To be fair, if you only buy those types of games it hasn't a chance to be anything other than a party machine. MP3 and Galaxy are well worth checking out if you want a better single player experience. Every time I moved from playing a fps on the pc to MP3 it felt so nice and fluid and Galaxy, well, it's the second highest rated game of all time. Nuff said :)

interesting debate as i tussled with the 360 v wii problem for a few months before opting for a 360.

actually my pc graphics card needed and upgrade and the price of an upgrade would have been around 200 quid i got my 2nd hand 360 for 100 quid. i know i could have had a wii for 170 quid but coming upto christmas perferred to get *** xbox and keep the change to be honest i would not have bought an xbox if i had to pay the full price that said im so glad i have one now :D my brother has a wii and its good fun but not something i would spend a lot of time with

Three of the games you mention are available on PC, and better on PC.

they must be better on PC, as you said so. me.... i'll stick with the 360 versions.

I've got a decent PC, 360 and Wii. I think the PC is great for serious gaming and the Wii for having a laugh with mates, but the 360 doesn't really offer anything I need that my PC doesn't.

good for you, i also own a PC, Wii, PS3 and 360.
PC gets used for net stuff and very little (if any) gaming as i don't care for mouse/keyboard gameplay.
the Wii was last used while my 360 was away a few weeks back.
PS3 was last used for the 2.10 update and not since.
360 gets used most days of the week.

while your right in that the Wii is good for having a laff with mates/family, that's all it's good for to me.

and again, while you may like the PC for your serious gaming. i think a PC is a waste for any kind of gaming. opinions opinions.

You say "kiddy friendly" like it's a bad thing.

I remember being that immature. Thankfully, it passed.

has it....

I agree, I find this amazingly ironic. Spotty teenagers bash the Wii for being a kiddie console with no mature games... and in the same breath will sell only parents and grannies play the Wii..:p

I find it funny that they take it so seriously, like it is a personal insult that the Wii is destroying the PS3 in sales and profit.

Ok, must get back for some more Wii goodness... not seen my mum have so much fun in front of the TV in years!

I used to be into PC games in a big way. The problem is that if I've got the choice between being hunched over a PC or sitting on my sofa, watching the action of a big LCD screen and listening to the game on a relatively high-end 5.1 setup then I'll choose the latter 99.9% of the time.

I'd still rather play FPS and RTS games on my PC. However, I find that there's so many good non-FPS and RTS games on the 360 that I don't have time to miss PC gaming.

I'd also much rather own a Xbox 360 than a Wii. I own both and the Wii only comes out when I've got guests round. I must admit that I've never really been a fan of 3D Zelda/Mario games though.

Is someones favourite console getting demolished in terms of sales?

Hey?

Which console? I have them all including Gamecube? I even had a Wii for a while. I'm just telling it like it is.

It would be far better for gamers if Nintendo became a Software only company like Sega as they do make some excellent games (if you like that kind of thing) but haven't a chance of catching up with the likes of MS and Sony in the hardware stakes.

Lets face it most people will only buy Nintendo games for there nintendo machine as third party games mostly suck. And its a bit stupid to have to keep buying the latest Nintendo console to play the remakes of the same games (Mario, Metroid, Smash Bros, Mario Kart etc.) over and over agian.

of cause all of this is my opinion, but i know I'm right ;)

I think its important to remember that the general public dont know what an aliased line is. they do not care.

its like a bunch of film buffs all scoffing over the golden compass not being the best movie out this christmas, it doesnt stop all the mums going to see it.

Still, the wii does have some great games but as usual as with the last few nintendo consoles they are all in house.

You seem to be under the misapprehension that the purpose of a business is to produce an excellent product, rather than to generate a profit and a return to their shareholders.

Besides, MS can quite clearly just barely manage to produce decent hardware.

Firstly, the DS has got some great 3rd party games, and the Wii is likely to follow suit. Secondly, is playing "remakes" (an innacurate term, but that seems to be par for the course) of games really any dumber than replaying Halo three times over?

Of course...

If they were EA style rehashes, sure, but they're not. Look at Galaxy. The nth no. in the series, yet filled with more surprises than any original ip i've played on other platforms in recent years. The quality of first party Nintendo games always shows through and they always feel fresh.

After getting a Wii at launch, personally the novelty of it wore off very quickly.

It's a good laugh with a bunch of mates or when you've got your family over your house - but other than that my 360 gets more attention.
