Is working in Gamestation really that good of a job?

They did the same when I worked at the purple shirt place in the 90s, plus metal detecting wands. Didn't stop the determined from getting things out of the building mind.

Really? I worked at Game during my gap year and thoroughly enjoyed it, decent people, seemed like a good culture there at the time. I imagine that things have changed now that they're in a tougher financial situation though.

@ the OP, it's not a good job - if I got a degree and ended up in Gamestation I'd be pretty peed off. However, if you're a student looking for something to do in the summer, and like games, there are much worse things you could do!

Gamestation always seems to stink of BO. I'm sure this comes from the staff. Perhaps this is a requirement of their recruitment, be sure you have it before you apply.

I worked at Woolies for a good long while and they went through phases of checking pockets, lockers etc at the end of the day.

Those were the days though, never had it so easy :p

Searched? Jesus. I can believe it, but it's just a real shame that it has to come to that. I work with some properly expensive equipment and sensitive material, but I'm never searched!

I guess it's because I can be trusted :p

I could NEVER respect or work for an employer who routinely searched me with the pathetic justification of 'just in-case!'
It's a massive invasion of your privacy and an intrusion of your personal space not to mention utterly dis-respectful!
How do they think they are going to gain respect and inspire their workforce when they are treating them like criminals?? I cannot believe it's legal tbh
Do people who work in banks and jewellers get searched every time they leave? Of course they don't so I don't know why place's like 'Game' think they can get away with it!

I use to occasionally buy stuff from 'Game' but after hearing how disgustingly bad and immoral they treated their workers they can go whistle for any more business from me!

I would also like to add that these 2 kids from the youth club who work in 'Game' are also volunteers at the youth club, both have worked (UNpaid) in the bar and on ticket sales for near on a year and guess what? Money always add's up!!
That said of course I work with kids that I wouldn't allow to do these type jobs as money WOULD go missing, but then again I'm a half decent judge of character (it's not rocket science!) , obviously the muppets responsible of hiring and firing at 'Game' aren't, perhaps they should send them on a few course's before treating everyone like thieves !

Well security cleared professionals are a little different to teenage students in a weekend/shop job :p

I just recently finished at Gamestation, i was a Christmas temp and i really enjoyed it! I got on with everybody; they also fit the time around Uni for me. Also i got some cool perks.

We get the same thing at John Lewis - business security guys go around getting everyone to press a button which will randomly select you to be searched (person/locker/car) ...

Back in the day though the system was so slack that it was common for large ticket items to go missing all too often - people could just load up a van off the docks with tvs etc (whole pallets sometimes) without being caught - that or changing the delivery labels to an address you want!

A couple of kids at the youth centre worked at 'Game' and I was shocked to find out that all staff were searched before leaving
NO WAY would I work for a company that treated you like a criminal/thief, shocking behaviour on Games behalf imho!!

no offence to the kids at the youth centre whom i'm sure are excellent people but EVERY person i know who has worked in retail under the age of 20 has stolen **** loads of stuff from their employer.

bet you if you can ever get an honest answer out of them quite a few drinks will have been had on the sly and your 40% vodka is probbaly closer to 30% now.

not much different to having cctv around the workplace

its very different to that. CCTV is there for loads of reasons, invasive and routibe individual searches of an employee show a total lack of trust and respect from the employer. It wouldn't make for a good workforce, that's for sure nor would I want to work for such a boss/company.

Im 18 and ive worked at the same place for 2 and a half years and theres No chance id agree to searches, ive never stolen anything in my life and i work with a really good team who are all in my opinion extremely trust worthy. Plenty of stuff to be nicked if we were that way inclined from phones to accessories (o2 shop) but nothings ever went missing bar a display iphone that got robbed by a group of chavs that came in.

Searches just show a complete lack of confidence and respect from the employer to there employee in my opinion, and im truly shocked to hear about car searches as thats stepping way over the line in terms of whats reasonable!

Professionals? Security clearance?

I'm sad to say that in relation to us types those labels mean absolutely nothing in reality :p

The Gamestation in town here always smells like left over fast food and BO, iv heard its pretty much the same everywhere else to. I would rather work in GAME if i had the choice as they seem more professional when it come to in-store hygiene :p
