Is working in Gamestation really that good of a job?

Used to do that to me at the brief time i worked in Curry's in the late 90's
 
You probably don't get much eye candy in there either, might be worth applying for ann summers instead?
 
When I was at school I had a job at a sports shop which has since closed, think it was called InStep Sports or something similar. They had the policy of searching bags and asking you to open your jacket on the way out which I had no problem doing as it applied to all staff even management.

One day one of the top brass came for a visit and all the store management were there to show him round etc and he left after giving a glowing report. We got word that he was coming back for another visit a week or so after which seemed unusual until when he walked out the door the second time he asked the store manager why he hadnt asked to search his briefcase? It turned out the bloke had £100 pair of trainers in there and the store manager got a right ticking off apparently.

After that they were very thorough with the searching and apparently they found 2 people who worked in the stock room with t shirts and similar in their bags and estimated they must have been doing it for years.

In Curry's? There's was the oriential girl that worked there that was quite simply stunning, most of the male staff lusted after her she was just so hot!
 
Quite a few of my old jobs you would be searched, Standard practice I thought?

To name a few Epson, Royal Mail, Synnex(computer/server company), Celestica(another computer firm) & pets at home (god knows probably got a rabbit up my jumper)

Never had a problem with it personally, Just one of those wands waved around you & a quick check of the bag.
 
i never got searched when i worked at a boots warehouse :D
the manager used to let us take stuff home aslong as we asked and didnt extract the urine.

it was mainly just old stock that needed sorting out and shipping off to other boots warehouses or stuff that had been allocated to charities though

part of the job was removing everything from the packaging and putting it into large crates before it was sent to charities (i guess they were trying to stop people at the charity end taking stuff and baying it)

Worked for Makro for 3 years and was searched fairly often, so no real surprise to me. Essentially in a lot of retail you are considered scum class by both the customer and the employer.
 
I had a summer job in Game 12 years ago.

As for who 'searches the searchers'... Well the previous Manager when I started had left and taken a large chunk of money from the safe, he was later arrested at home!

We did get searched when locking up the store, but it was only a quick opening of your bag. The Manager was always reluctant at how he had to do it, but it was company policy. I used to be given thousands of pounds to bank in at the Post Office, so I don't think trust was an issue.

As others have said, it's like any other retail job really. Thing I hated most, which Game likely don't have to do anymore, was that every Game had to be shrink wrapped. There was a shrink wrapping machine up three flights of stairs from the shop floor, it kicked out tons of heat with no air on, horrible!
 
worked at Game whilst at uni too previously. People are great, Top managment dont know what their doing - its just a retail job, occasionally you will get to voice an opinion but mostly you just serve customers and stock the shelves.

I used to laugh when people came up and said working there must be good bc you could play games all day? WTF? can you not see im stood serving people you dumb prune? I always used to enjoy console launches though but there few and far between nowadays.

Tesco does random staff searches, I've had them done a couple of times on my way to a break/lunch, and have zero problem with it. I work on checkouts, and could be siphoning moneu out the tills, or have grabbed something off the shelf and stuck it in my pocket. Its in the contract you agreed to when you started working there, and if they are losing stock due to people stealing stuff, then of course I want them to find whoever's nicking all the stuff. Less theft = company performs better = better share price and wages.

Unless you have S&M gear or a massive collection of dildos then there's nothing in there that you should be worried about others seeing.

I'd rather work there than in Tesco, McDonald's, etc.

I did two weeks work experience there about 5 years ago whilst at school (I was ill and missed all the better jobs :p) and it was actually pretty good. The people working there were great and as I like game anyway I never really got bored talking about them. Very easy stuff to do as well.

I still get recognised going in there now actually. :p

Edit: my bag got searched too, but only on the very last day which was odd.

Shop I work part time in (won't name but 100+ chains) does the bag of balls. 4 balls, go free, locker search, person search (pockets/bag) and car search.

However the manager or duty manager are usually too busy to do it so most of the time it doesn't get done.

Aha, a similar thing happened with the manager when I worked over Christmas for Argos. It's amazing how much money a shop can take in over the Christmas period.
 
I wouldn't mind working at my local store tbh but then again i wouldn't mind working anywhere at the moment as i don't have a job :(
