ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

I am grateful for Putins existence. This is worth a watch though

My only concern with Pilger is evidence following theory. Promoting the search and discovery to support an idea which has a side effect of affecting results - is something that causes skewed results/interpretations in science.

There is evidence that being in a state of war affects voters, and that press are used to manipulate public group thought. The herd mentality means people flock together when presented with a state of fear or unknown.
Now couple the vote winning for delivering prosperity

However gaining vote is one aspect. A president only covers a brief tenure. The instrument that presents a continuum is more the governmental body/military behind, perhaps theres an agenda there that simply needs power and feeding - perhaps the military need and dollars = political funding (that they can influence/control politicians).

There's an interesting wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_involving_the_United_States#21st_century_wars

However it mentions nothing about trade interests in the region.

Compared to the beginning of the year there is quite a difference:

It depends there's two aspects to this:
a) better intel = more accurate detail
b) low value areas mean very little - you note the the ISIS control is still centred around the transportation/logistics - the roads and the river.

So attacking the financial aspects means they need to budget more. Thus protecting the logistics network (money/assets and logistics are simply one traded for the other) means the blood that flows along the transport routes is minimised. The result is that it starves the war machine weakening it.

The result is that you will then still have IS members on the ground for a long time - hidden in the population.

Just like Afghanistan where the initial war scattered AlQ.. then years later a second uprising once they'd regrouped and obtained funds/support from outside again.

If the people of the region will not defend themselves then there is a continuing cycle. The instability means the oil and gas from the region is only delivered by stable regimes ...

Isis isn't even the really 'real' issue, I think Iran and Saudi Arabia are about to go at it in the near future, but its speculation.

I think there's a large religious kick off to prove who is the the true seat of power in Islam.

Effectively self-imploding as those two warring will simply drag all the islamic nations in by way of the islamic coalition.

“[Ankara] thought we would flee [Syria]! No, Russia is not a country to act like that. We increased our presence in Syria; we increased the strength of our air forces. There were no anti-aircraft weapon systems there before – now there is the S-400,” he said.

Turkey used to violate Syrian airspace on a regular basis, now let’s see them fly there

:p

Best news yet! Let them massacre each other and have Putin send in the Bear Cavalry to claim the region in the name of the Motherland.

Bear cavalry? Russia's only military response to Turkey's ancient airforce downing a Russian jet has been to fire a warning shot at an unarmed Turkish fishing boat. Seems like you can provoke the Bear after all :D

Well they have started economic sanctions on turkey which has led to an abundance of "holiday in turkey" adverts on TV so it must be working :D.

And with fewer Russian tourists there, Turkey suddenly seems like a much more appealing destination ;)
