ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

A strike that was more than likely called in by some useless Iraqi grunt on the ground who got his coords mixed up and who more than likely called in the strike onto his own location.

From the information so far the strike was where it was intended to be but between the point of it being called in and when it landed the Iraqi forces had moved forward :S

they called in support there were 2 strikes that hit the ISIS fighters, the troops then quickly advanced and engaged ISIS up close the US then turned up for a 3rd strike and bombed both sides

Oh well, I was nearly right. At least this time they actually tried to put up a fight though, rather than 40,000 of them dropping their weapons, stripping off their uniforms and running away from 1000 angry beards in Toyota pick-ups like they did in Mosul.

Am I missing something? Saudi breaking off diplomatic relations with Iran wouldn't be a world war would it?

No but people suggesting that it would be the inevitable next step towards larger scale conflict will now feel vindicated. Its certainly not good news for the region.

Some folk already argue we are already in a world war state given that islamic conflict is now spread right through Africa, the middle East with spill over into Asia, Europe and North America.

Whether it ever gets as far as Iran and Saudi Arabia being overtly at war with each other or just fighting proxy wars we just need to wait and see.

The good thing is, this time we won't be involved with a struggle for our nations very survival.

We are basically entering a new Cold War, except this time it isn't the west v Russia, but Saudi v Iran. It's been going on for a while and is probably only going to get worse before it gets better unfortunately.

I'd hardly call it a cold war, its just another arms race, except its now for-profit for our arms manufacturers vs eastern ones instead of a toe-toe race between super-powers.

Kinda boring tbh.
