ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Yes - our press if far from perfect, and quite often gets things wrong, however the government spend more of their time hiding things from the media rather than telling them what to write.

So tell me where was the outrage from the British press that the rebels had turned the water off to 1.5 million people in Aleppo? There is one narrative and that is western backed rebels good/Assad bad.

We hear about bunker busters, hospitals, but we don't hear about the life critical resource, water.

Er...the guardian reported on it. So did cbs!

Link to guardian article?

Cbs is British media?

Given how many newspapers and websites we have that are UK based what happened to the rest of them, did they somehow forget this story?

Just Google 'Syria rebels turn off water' there's also results from the independent and others in there.

And no, cbs are American. Hence why I said 'so did cbs!' as a separate sentence.

Sorry I can't see it, the only links are from Sputnik news and veterans today website.

The rest are from 2014 or are having the text hidden such as 'water turned off amid air strikes'

Rather than 'rebels turn off water to 1.5 million Syrian civilians'

As I said, link please.

Title;

"Syria bombings leave 1.75 million without running water in Aleppo"

What happened was the rebels switched the water supply off.

Unicef says children at risk of outbreaks of waterborne diseases after two pumping stations left out of action

No where in the title or sub heading does it state that the reason that 1.5 million.people don't have water is because the rebels turned the pumps off. There is no outrage at this and it alludes that they were knocked out of action in the title and subtitle?

Heavy bombardment of the rebel-held eastern area of Aleppo has left about 1.75 million people without running water, the United Nations has said.

Intense attacks on Friday prevented repairs to the city’s damaged Bab al-Nayrab pumping station, which supplies water to 250,000 people in the eastern parts of the city, according to the UN’s children’s agency, Unicef.

In retaliation, the nearby Suleiman al-Halabi station, which pumps water to 1.5 million people in the west of Aleppo, was switched off, it said.

First line does not mention that it was the rebels just switching it off, it seems like it was the bombardments that did it, imply regime blame.

Only in paragraph 3 does it mention that the pumps were intentionally turned off. But it does not specify that this was a rebel action.

Like I said originally there is no outrage directed towards the rebels for doing this against their fellow, Syrians who aren't armed combatants.

Instead the air strikes are blamed. Why is this?

Alternative non supportive of rebels reporting:

Battle for Aleppo: US-Backed Rebels Shut Off Water for 1.5 Million Civilians

The so-called “moderate” rebels turned off the water to 1.5 million civilians living in West Aleppo in retaliation for a Syrian Army airstrike on East Aleppo that allegedly left 250,000 residents without water setting the stage for an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe. The city of Aleppo is “dying” according to United Nations officials after a fierce wave of bombing last night by the Syrian Army in an attempt to break the stalemate in what once was the economic capital of the country but is now left to rubble after years of combat between the Assad government and rebels.

I said we didn't hear any outrage. I quoted myself so you can check.

We receive outrage about bunker busters, about bombing hospitals, but where was the outrage at the rebels for switching the water off. They instead led with a narrative of bad Assad bombing the poor defenceless rebels 'oh and btw the water was turned off'.

You stated they didn't report on it. They did. You've read the article yourself.

They reported it while leaving the reader to guess at its cause and also cleverly planting the "Russian warplanes bomb everything and anything and kill "a few" people"

"If you did decide to leave in dignity, and with your weapons, to Idlib or anywhere you wanted to go, I personally am ready physically to accompany you,"

- Staffan de Mistura, UN Envoy

Problem is here - and something many don't seem to get - is that these elements will be justifying to themselves that they were put in this position and their actions even when bad are because of the situation a 3rd party (Syrian government, etc.) has put them in, rather than necessarily a path they've intentionally gone down, the appeal to them is lost as it would mean admitting some degree of guilt or intention on their own part.

As you can see, in the quote that you quoted yourself you said we don't hear about water. Except we did...

Ha obeying orders that's a good excuse.

Mid level roles in an organisation like that often don't have the complete picture and have to assume that their superiors are doing the right things for the right reasons - it isn't like the movies.
