ISIL, ISIS, Daesh discussion thread.

Gonna be interesting to see how far this game of brinkmanship will go, the US is potentially going to look embarrassingly weak.

*Starts expansion work on bunker*

EDIT: I think some of the translations in that video are off - I don't really understand Russian but a few bits that I can work out are very different from what he is actually saying.

The press conference has been confirmed by the Russian Foreign office and is all over RT now, iirc they even stated ships that launched planes would be sunk. The French FM has just left the Russian FO and is flying to was ington.

I put was ington because I hope the city will be in the past tense soon.

^^ The gist of the video is right but I think someone has put a bit of an inflammatory spin on his words in translation though I might be wrong - there are a few bits I can figure out what he is saying and they aren't quite what the translations say.

As I say the press conference has been confirmed by the Russian FO and it's being taken so seriously that the french fm has flown to Moscow spoken to Lavrov and is now flying to was ington because it's serious and not a mistranslation.

I'd have first struck the u,s with thousands of warheads after the first half million Syrians were dead.

I'm saying I think someone has taken some liberties with the wording in the translation - some bits don't even seem to be about Syria but a more general condemnation of US/NATO movements but translated as directly applying to and exclusively about Syria.

And I'm saying the Russian Foreign Office has confirmed the details.

I'm not shocked but I certainly don't give damn if any brits die in the attacks on Syria or Yemen, or any "cops" on secondment to bahrain, infact I was glad to hear there were mi6 in the Aleppo ccc that got cruised.

I hope you don't run when carrying that edge.

That doesn't change what I'm saying - the gist of it has been confirmed - but that doesn't mean the language used in his speech as intended and those translations are entirely the same. While I'm happy to be corrected if someone is good with both Russian and English from what I can make out a certain amount of the translation has been adjusted to put a slightly different spin on it in English - there are a couple of bits where he definitely seems to be talking about eastern Europe where the translations say Syria or middle east.

Hey I dont live in a city which has 100 mega tons designated to it, I get to see the fireworks before I die.

If Russia had the inclination their arsenal could turn every inch of the UK to glass something like 1000x over. Realistically I doubt any city will have 100mt delivered singularly or combined infact with modern (or semi modern) nuclear weapons I doubt many places would receive into double digit mt as largely area/asset/service denial, etc. can be done effectively with 100s of kt.

The recently deployed SA23 (S300) covers most of Syria, including raqqah, potentially making air operations more difficult there. So remind me, who is helping ISIL side again?
