Isp that don't cap or try and get you to cap? LIKE PIPEX!

The sooner we get a pure pay per usage system in this country for broadband the better.

I see no reason why i should subsidise the 'warez monkeys' who download countless GBs per month. The fairest system by far is that you pay for what you use as you do with gas and electricity. Bandwidth costs money, why should we be adverse to paying for it?

If it says unlimited then thats what it should mean. Amazing that friends of mine in sweden norway and usa can have anything fromm 10mbit to 100mbit and have no limits what so ever. But good england again !!!!

if u warez monkeys come to eclipse, i hope they impose a d/l limit on you.
and if you download 35gb per week, its blatently obvious your not downloading legal material, 1 or 2 cds/films a week is ok, but what ** doing is WAY OTT!
p.s eclipse have been having problems of late, so come aboard for 50k/s downloads on 2mbit ;)

I too got that email from pipex and before you all come down on me for being a "warez monkey" I don't even know wtf "warez" is

Basically they are complaining because I download large files "during peak times" which isn't supprising because there opinion of "peak times" is 6 to midnight, which obviously is when I use my pc as thats when i've finished work.

TBH i'm quite happy with Pipex so i'll try and conform to what they're asking although the email isn't clear if i'm meant to avoid downloading between 18:00 and 00:00 or ONLY download between 00:00 and 6:00

I'm in the same boat on Pipex 2mb Unlimited connection. And you 35gb like its a lot. Considoring if you maxed out a 2mb connection you could pull down something like 20gb a day. And ISP's aren't stupid, they all expect there users to be downloading illegal stuff, if they don't there very naive. Pipex are just being very sneaky, selling uncapped connections with no stated limit, then when your with them for a year, telling you you've dl'ed too much and are gonna be restricted between 6-12. Which as someone already said is a pain in the arse.

Its not as if Pipex are cheap either.

i'm on OneTel with an uncapped 2mb line for £23.99 a month, which i think is a little high but reasonable since i haven't had any connection issues or problems in 2 years.

Don't know about their new contracts though, might include a cap.

Just the guy!

Thats what I mean, pipex is £30-something for 'uncapped' 2mb.

Hi

Pipex have never been cheap but they have been quality in the past but slowly the service has degraded and now the "fair deal traffic management" is one step too far ... im not against the principle but limiting a users bandwidth at peak times will just cause trouble and stress .. lets face it most users whatever their download habits want the best service at the most appropraite times .. peak time max band width is the key issue even if a user just wishes to watch a movie on demand or use a game server or video chat ... even listening to online radio uses a fair bit ... IMO if they are currently struggerling to provide a useable service on 2M/b connection at all times then how are they gonna cope when 8M/b is about & users want high bandwidth apps like ive already mentioned at peak times ... oh well no matter ive already migrated .. will try another ISP for a month and see how that goes

Well, Im keeping my fingers crossed as we have had no problems with pipex at all since we have been with them for the last 2 years or so. We do a lot of downloading sometimes and never had a problem.

We have a 2.2mb / 256kb uncapped connection. I hope that we dont have any problems once I get my 360 connected to the wireless network and experience some Xbox 360 Live lovin' :D

I can tell you that is not the case in the US and Canada. The bigger ISP's are imposing the same traffic shaping and caps as the UK.

If people insist on dowloading 35 gig per week or wahtever then we will all have to deal with heavy capping and traffic shaping.

As always it is the idiots that spoil it for everyone else.

Thanks for downloading your 35gb a week and changing the ways in which ISPs do business

I've been having a think about this issue over the last two days since getting my email saying I was being targetted for traffic management. I think instead of trying to change to an alternative ISP I'll instead use it as a turning point in my net usage.

I must admit that I use my connection full whack for sometimes days on end downloading. The stupid thing is i'm downloading absolute rubbish that just sits on various hard disks which ends up costing me a fortune because i'm constantly having to buy more HD's to hold the stuff which never even gets a second look.

I think the only reason I end up downloading it all is because I can

Its almost like a weird obsession :o Well it stops now..... and on the plus side I can spend the money i'd normally have spent on a hard drive to hold more tripe every 3 or 4 months on something usefull!!

We pay £23.4x a month for a 2.2mb / 256kb uncapped connection. Not a bad price if I must admit.

Hi

Ive migrated to NewNet for a trial ... they charge for the migration but you get first month free and its monthly contract so can leave if they are'nt up to scratch but by all accounts they had teething troubles but have them sorted now ... i wont change my habits i will still use my broadband as before which i estimate to be more than average but not overly exessive as i vid chat a lot with multi-screen clients (non business) which eats bandwidth . They say they dont ban p2p but remind ppl of their obligation to not upload or download illegal material which is cool as im a light p2p user on occasions

EDIT : for the record my 2Mb/s unlimted account was charged @ £33 a month and has been since it was upgraded from 1Mb around a year ago so they arent actually much cheaper than Zen who are reguarded as being costly
