I currently earn a decent wage but don't enjoy my job in the slightest.

Think I'd quite enjoy something in the IT field but am wondering about the validity of training etc

At the end of a course would I end up on 12k hoovering out peoples keyboards or are there ones worth doing?

Any advice/recommendations gratefully accepted :)

It seems experience and proof of hard work will override most qualifications. Obviously it might help, or may even get you a job. But having an IT degree seems less and less worthwhile these days. If your specialising certain courses may help you develop your skills.

That's the impression I had. Thing is I can't really afford to start on the bottom rung of the ladder due to various financial commitments :(

ive been thinking of making a move into an IT role, but ive no qualifications in IT and my only real experience was a year problem managing the Inland Revenues IT system for a company called EDS. It involved some testing and coding but very little experience wise.

Problem is, in my current job im earning £20K a year before overtime, and with a new mortgage there is no way i can afford to take a pay cut.

Thats often a problem when changing jobs, if you wanted it bad enough you would do anything. Whats your current job?

I love computers, great hobbie, another world of information, people and knowlegde. Great games, etc.

but I refuse to work with computers! I get fustrated enough when i get a problem with my own. IT jobs look so dull, and unrewarding. Some people love their jobs though, a lot of people on here work in the IT sector, and probaly love it and reep the rewards.

Not if you have a mortgage kids etc. That would be selfish imo.

Don't make the mistake I made by not going for things because of house/kids etc. - you will get by somehow.
Don't just blank out the possibility of doing something really good or great for that matter! Try some goal setting - write everything down and make a path to get where you want to be.
