IT helpdesk.

I see, definitely interested in something along those kind of lines, and from North West Leicestershire, where I am, its actually only a 45ish minute commute to the city centre, do you have a postcode I could get to check out routes/details/average rush hour commute times?

This sort of thing does seem right up the avenue i'm looking for work in, and I'm very greatful for the offer :)

The postcode for the firm is B4 6BH.

Im going home now folks, Ill try and log on from home but my laptop is cack and very very slow to the point where I lose patience.

If anything Tim, email me (see trust).

Evening all and have a good weekend :)

1st line is fairly simple stuff, I did it for a year on 13k :( then moved to logistics and was on 20k, got bored of that and went back into it for a pay drop of 16k, after 3 months there I am now running 3 offices on my own and have a company car, mobile and laptop. and earn 22k, not easy work mind but varied, I do everything from 1st line to network installation, my 1st week there i built a WDS Server and imaged 100 PC's!!

as long as your self motivated and are happy to study your ass off and learn EVERYTHING you will do fine!

Not read the whole thread, but why is it when-ever anyone offers you a suggestion you just shoot it down?

People are offering advice, and you just seem so negative. Its no wonder you cant get a job?! Employers wont employ someone who has this kind of attitude!

Buck up your ideas, no one is going to hand the world to you on a plate.

Mini-bump, this thread is an interesting read (arguments aside).

Regarding learning MS technologies if you are really strapped for cash you can get by with just buying the text book (which is pretty much required for the exam).

For example the Windows Server 2003 text book has a 180 day trial of Windows Server 2003 on it, which you can install in a Virtual Machine (Microsoft Virtual PC is free) and as the practicals are not exactly taxing the system anywhere near as much as a real server, you can run it on really rubbish requirements. Even not having electricity or enough ram is not an excuse. Flash disks are not that expensive these days, so you could have the whole VM on disk to plug into a mates PC, wherever you can find a plug point if you have a laptop or even on a public PC.

Book: £27
Flash drive for VM (8GB): £18.
Exam costs (and until the middle of this year, a free resit): £88.

So with £133 and some free time you can have one qualification.

There is no excuse unless you are lazy.

If you buy in bulk from Prometric you can get the price down to £80, think you have to buy at least 10 though to get that sort of price.

CLAWS, any chance of sending me some info regarding those IT jobs? Pretty please?

Plunk, sorry for the late reply mate.

The role is for a 1st line support/service desk analyst, based within a very busy law firm in Birmingham.

The company is good to work for and hard work is noticed and rewarded, I can vouch for that :). If youre thinking of forwarding your CV on to me(see trust), then Ill say the same thing Ive said to Ace and Tim - learn as much as you can when it comes to MSOffice products, especially word, excel, powerpoint and outlook.

A lot of the stuff is just common sense really i.e. customer service, service delivery and taking ownership of issues.

When I started here I thought I knew everything there is to know about MSWord and Powerpoint. How wrong I was lol

Anyways, if you need more info let me know although I will be out of the country from tommorrow onwards for a week, so anything you need to know ask it now. If you want me to submit your CV then email it to me today.

Flippin heck I should work for a recruitment agency.............................NOT

Haha @ commission. The extra cash would be nice, but then Im not doing too bad anyways :)

Do they not do a friends and familly deal where if you recommend someone and they stay for 6mths you get some cash, if they stay for a year you get a bit more? Lot's of insurance/law firms sed to do that type of thing. May be worth asking HR?
