As for backups, I'd suggest possibly getting an older grade backup drive, SDLT320\LTO2, that'll serve you nicely.

Then as the fellas above said, SBS. Server + OS will by the looks, set you back £1400, then you have to pick up a backup device, £300ish (off fleabay), then media, you'd need at least 20 (4 week cycle) tapes, I don't know the price of LTO2's these days.

Then I guess you could just use ntbackup, which if you need SQL\Exchange backups for absolute disaster recovery, this'll do you fine.
 
Use Linux to reduce your costs (particularly in terms of licenses).

With the best will in the world, given the language used in the OP I'd suggest that Linux probably isn't the answer.

He needs something that is simple to install, administer and back up safely. That isn't screaming Linux in this situation - its screaming Windows SBS.
