Italian Grand Prix 2010, Monza Circuit - Race 14/19

I think ferrari will be in fuel save mode from lap 10 in the race.

Well done Button.

1st Button
2nd Hamilton
3rd Massa

for the race

Great....

Had to take the other half to the train station half way through Q2...
Traffic meant that I missed Q3 as well - switched TV on and it's showing the qualifying positions...

This is why I try to arrange my life around the F1.

No point rewinding the recording to watch Q3 now.

Does anyone else think Hamilton made it difficult for himself? He should have backed off a tad before his final lap as he was being hindered by the cars in front.*

*I guess he'll know best, but from my armchair, it just looked like they were a bit close...

She was originally going to be leaving at just before mid-day. Fine - I can do that. I don't know what changed, but I'm not happy now.

The sky box may somehow have a failed recording for Dancing with the Stars tonight...

Fantastic for Button but I'm well disappointed Lewis is not on pole :( Here's hoping he can have a strong race and get into 3rd. I don't see anyone else other than Jenson or Alonso winning.

He did back off but I guess he left it too late to back off much more without compromising his exit speed onto the straight. He may well have underestimated how much Webber would back off in front of him.

I could quite happily live with Alonso going into anti-stall at the start - Massa to smash into the back of him - taking both out of the race.

Even better - 2 engine failures on the way to the grid or the parade lap. ;)

Phone. Call Taxi. Money to GF. Wave GF off. F1.

:D

I don't understand how anybody can bet against RBR..

:D

Even Red Bull didn't expect a low downforce track to suit them.

Ferrari on pole and interesting to see how Button can hold them off in the first few laps. That lack of straightline speed could kill him. Great performance for 2nd though.

Shoulda paused it when you went out, and then come back and unpaused it. :p

The added down force could also allow him to out brake Alonso into the first chicane and get a good enough exit to hold Alonso off into the 2nd chicane then pull away through the twisty middle sector, it could go either way tomorrow.

Will Massa try to hold up those behind him to give Alonso an easier win?

Very unlikely that Massa will slow down those behind him, in order to help his team-mate.

Does anybody remember the last time something like this actually happened?

I think it was 1999, when MSc slowed everybody down to allow Irvine to get a good lead. However, this was in a time when MSc was quite simply in a different class to everybody else. Massa is not MSc.

I can't remember this sort of tactic beind successfully employed at any other time, where a driver quite obviously drove slower, so that his team-mate ahead could open up a gap.

The point I'm making is that this sort of think rarely happens.

This ^

I had a client to visit this morning so got back just as Q2 was on, which was handy. If it was any later I would have watched the recording later.

The problem is Button hadn't been that great off the line this year really. He either holds position or loses a few IIRC. If anyone gets close to the back of Button that will nail him everytime.

Not on purpose it will happen naturally from his inability to hold onto his team mate and hold up the pack.

If the start goes ok I see

Alonso
Hamilton
Button
