Italian Grand Prix 2012, Monza - Race 13/20

Hmm, random thought from seeing an article about Senna. How come the Vettel Alonso incident got a penalty, when the Senna Di Resta one didn't even get investigated?

Well, I was in the GA stands just about 50m from the Parabolica, right on the braking point :D

Started the race a bit further down in the shade of the bridge which was a lovely respite from the merciless sun!

Big cheers/jeers when Button stopped right in front of us and walked past waving, big cheers when Vettel retired and lots and lots of abuse directed at Massa. MASSIVE cheering for Alonso as you'd expect.

I didn't notice any racism at all and there were plenty of people walking around in McLaren gear (2nd most popular kit after Ferrari). Huge round of applause for Hamilton and Perez as he came past on the last lap and cooldown lap too, so they aren't just there for Ferrari/Alonso and are indeed F1 fans :)

Still lots of love for Schumi amongst the Tifosi, lots and lots of people with historical Ferrari/MSC kit on, lots of cheering and waving when he came past etc.

I got a few videos which I will endeavour to upload to YouTube if/when I get a chance.

no one seems to care if you arent a championship contender.

a bit like when one of the hrts got spun around at malaysia or bahrain by i think it was button?

One thing I noticed from standing trackside at Monza was that the Lotus cars sounded different to all the other cars when on the power (a sort of humming noise almost) and the Torro Rosso cars sounded hugely different to every other team under braking - a much, much deeper engine note.

At the end of the race when Perez was closing in, he was still audiby braking at 50m whereas Hamilton was rolling off the throttle at 70-80m and coasting into the corner.

This is exactly what I noticed at Spa, too.

Yep. They and the HRTs were much more painful on the ears too!

We were just before the braking zone before the first chicane, so the cars were going flat out to on the brakes just after they passed. Huge variation in cars on the overrun too.

Wasn't That on the way down to the parabolica looks like it, thought lesmo 1 was after the second chicane

Yep. No idea why I typed that, probably because I was talking about other stuff while typing the post. I worked mega late on the back end of last week to make sure I had the Sunday off to get to the race so I'm pretty tired.

Really gutted for JB yesterday, really think he could have challanged LH for the win yesterday if his fuel pickup had worked properly (he seemed to be closing the gap before the issue arose).

If he is allowed to truelly fight LH for the remaining races, I think he might be able to close the gap significantly - but he HAS to take a big chunk out of the lead in the next race or two to have any hope.

Unfortunately Alonso is too far gone (Im not sure even LH has enough to be fair), the Ferrari will be good enough to get 5 - 10 points a race at a minimum ,esp given Massa will concede any place at will.

Have to admit (as I dont have sky) I turned off R5L at that point (apart from the TERRIBLE commentary , I just really wasnt that interested after that)

I dont think Alonso could have asked for a better result yesterday given his technical failure in quali (I cant imagine the 2 points between 3rd and 2nd really making that much of a difference after all)

Yeah but Ron doesn't care about titles only his 1 in 4 win record :D

I think he cares about keeping Hamilton more :D.

Certainly more than Whitmarsh seemed to. This weekend he gave off the impression of someone who couldn't care less if Hamilton stayed or not. Its a dangerous attitude to take. Loosing Hamilton would be a massive mistake for McLaren given the effort they have put into getting him where he is. I'm fairly certain that if Ron was still in charge Hamilton would have signed another 5 year deal months ago.
