Looking very nice for Mclaren and Ferrari at the moment. Force India also quick. Red Bull struggling.

Why were they (BBC 5 Live) talking about Msc's repaired box in FP1?

They made it sound like if he replaced it he would get a penalty...

Gearbox needs to last 5 races in a row, the FIA count the race as an event starting on Saturday FP3, so MS would need to put the box he used in Spa in tomorrow and if it was not fixed then would get a penalty.

If you don't finish the previous race then you can change the gearbox without penalty, so Alonso is getting a new one tomorrow anyway after the Spa DNF.

Gotcha, this is what confused me from FP1:

BBC Live Text said:
BBC Sport's chief F1 writer Andrew Benson at Monza:
"Michael Schumacher has a bit of a shadow hanging over him here. He lost sixth gear in the closing stages of the Belgian Grand Prix, which damaged the internals of the gearbox. Team boss Ross Brawn said on Thursday that they did not expect to have to change it and incur a five-place grid penalty, but that message to Schumacher from his engineer to 'short-shift' is a reminder that he has to be careful with it for a little while."

So I assumed he was running his repaired race box in FP1 not a practice box.
