Italian Grand Prix 2013, Monza - Race 12/19

He's not having to defend, not having to watch his mirrors, not chasing anyone else.

Easier to just bang in high speed laps when you don't have anyone sniffing around behind you waiting for you to go just a bit too wide or brake a bit too early/late.

It's not just Vettel that can do this - anyone with a quick car who can get into T1 first often does it, it's just that the last few years more often than not it's Vettel in that quick car getting to T1 first.

In quali yesterday, Webber was only marginally slower than Vettel and they said that Webber could have got a faster time if he'd been quicker in earlier sectors. So at the end of the day, both cars are set up to win but Vettel got pole because, well, he is the better driver. It's not like Vettel is the only driver with a winning car.

Typo there in a moment of rage.

Seeing him in the lead every race is duller than watching paint dry. Webber needs to step up!

Does being fast in qualifying not carry any merit then?

His point was that winning races from down the grid that involve a bit of racing are at least interesting to watch.

However good you may argue he is, you can't argue that watching yet another lights to flag victory with no challenge is exceptionally boring and sucks any real excitement from the race.

A last minute battle for 9th place between a couple of midfielders doesn't generate quite the same excitement as a race for the win.

Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren and Mercedes, with Button, Hamilton, Alonso and Kimi need to step up, more like. 5 WDCs and countless WCCs, and the 2 most successful teams in F1 should be a collection of talent more than capable of taking the fight to Vettel and RBR, especially after 4 years.

Not really sure if you're trying to disagree with what I said or not?

Oh of course, as a spectator it sucks balls. But being consistently able to destroy the field in 1 lap sprints is an acheivement that should be commended.

It makes racing boring, but I doubt he's going to deliberately under perform on a Saturday to make our Sunday TV better :p

Might be worth asking him though. :)

Impossibru! Newey is too clever. He clearly pushes the rules to their limits and beyond.. it wouldn't suprise me if their 2014 car thrashes the rest of the field again.
