Italian Grand Prix 2013, Monza - Race 12/19

I was chatting to a mate at the track before the start and said Hamilton would be mugged by Vettel before they got to us (Pouhon). I figured he would either get him at turn 1, or get a decent start and be close enough to slip stream into Le Combes. Hamilton having to make a minor lift at the top of Eau Rouge just made it a simple pass.

I did think he would be able to hold onto second though, never thought Alonso would be right up there that quickly.

Red Bull it seems no longer have any chinks in their armor. The way to beat them now is simply (lol, 'simply') to be better than them.

Rival teams need to take away (head-hunt) key personnel from RBR - I've said this all along.
This an underhanded tactic, but doing so will make rival teams stronger (and here's the important part) make RBR weaker.

Another thing which can be done is for the FIA to introduce new rules, which do not suit RBR. What these rules are...I don't know, but this is for the FIA to investigate and apply.

The worst thing that could've happened this year, was when Pirelli changed their tyres to make them more durable - I think this was done after Monaco. This suited RBR right down to a 'T'. I was dead against this as I knew exactly where this was going. The weak tyre is the only advantage Ferrari and Lotus had over RBR. Once this was taken away, RBR tore the opposition apart.

Its a shame that with some 8 races to go, most people acknowledge that the WDC is effectively over.

i dont agree with changing the rules to hamper red bull

i definitely didnt want the tyres changed.. that did play perfectly into RBRs hands

I dont really see how other teams can poach, if i was working for RBR i would not want to leave

Don't know if its been posted but Ricardo is confirmed for RBR 2014.

Check their YouTube page for videos.

I don't see how a rule change will hamper RBR, the cars really only have subtle differences. Any rule change will just effect the other teams as much and going from previous seasons, RBR are the best at adapting to the new rules. Their complete package is better than any other team, it really is that simple. Other teams need to do better if they want to win.

The difference this year is that there is surely no way they can use the exhaust to blow the diffuser, and when Red Bull have been unable to do so (or haven't had an efficient solution), they've been a little lacklustre in recent years, notably at the start of last season.

That said, even a has easily been enough to win the title. McLaren may have had the faster car, but of the two, Red Bull were by far and away still the superior team.

They are still doing it somehow - you can hear it at the track. I think they are storing the gas in a small canister bit. There was a photo of from Lotus a few months ago.

RBR did have some rules they exploited tightened - flexible wings and floors.. didn't slow them down much though.

Sorry, I know I said "this year", but I was quoting a comment based on the 2014 cars, so my use of "this" wasn't literal. I should have been much clearer.

Ferrari toyed with an additional chamber in the exhaust that provides a bit of a buffer of gas flow meaning they get a bit of blowing when off throttle. RBR I expect are using something similar. The coanda effect means they are blowing the diffuser easily.

2014 is a totally different story. None of the methods they use now will transfer. The exhausts are central and higher, the exhaust path itself goes through a turbo, its all changed. EBDs will be gone.

going to miss qualifying as im getting married!

will be back in time for the race tho :p

I watched FP3 and Quali at a friends wedding a couple of years ago. :D I was sat at the back during the ceremony and off to one side at the reception. Phone in my hand and the IEM cable up sleeve and out collar. ;)

Didn't get noticed at all. :D

Of course, I wasn't actually at the alter so that could make it a bit more tricky.

Anyway, what terrible wedding planning. Monza weekend! Didn't you have any input? ;) :p
