Its Coming - Ahsoka

Oh I didn't know he had passed away in real life. Him and the gorgeous Team evil assistant are the best thing in the show tbh.
I only just found out as I happened to be speaking to the god-mother of his 3 kids this morning. (She's the manager of a hotel he owned with his wife, where I'm staying)

Ray Stevenson really elevated the show, a powerful presence anytime he was on screen. Apparently he was contracted for 6 seasons.

As an aside, to really appreciate Ahsoka you really need to have watched the animated SW:Rebels before hand as well as the animated Clone Wars.

On the subject of Rebels, I'm nearing the completion of my re-watch of the full series. The slow build up over each season has been really good, the episodes each serve the overall story arc and yet are complete in and of themselves. Even knowing what is coming hasn't reduced my enjoyment. Last night had some pre-Rogue one plot points (episode made after Rogue One release) that tied in well with both Clones and the movie. The show has a few plot elements that are close to World breaking but by and large they get a pass because it's been generally so well delivered.

Mando season 1 and 2 were the best for me, then followed by Andor and Ahsoka. Though Ahsoka is as much SW:Rebels part 2 Live Action, and as I previously said to properly appreciate it you really need to have watched the animated SW:Rebels, Clone Wars first.

Initial figures (provided by SambaTV to various media outlets) suggested that Ahsoka viewership fell 28% during its run and that the finale was viewership was 42% lower than the Mandalorian S3's finale but that it still outperformed Andor's finale -

However, 3 weeks later the Neilsen data has now been released which gives some more context to the above figures, as the Ahsoka finale was actually viewed for 110 million minutes LESS in its release week than the Andor finale was during its release week, when taking into account differing episode lengths -

To me at least, all of that seems to be a great indicator of a TV series, which costs around $15m per episode (based on every other SW series known costs), being guaranteed to get renewed for a new season under Disney's drive to bankrupt parts of itself rather than admit that errors have been made.

I still dont get the hype over andor.
For me it's because it shows the Empire as competent and dangerous. The rebels have to be ruthless and dirty to achieve their goals. The build up and the pay off in the 3 acts of the series are each excellent but the prison one would have been great in any setting let alone Star Wars. It is the only uambiguously adult Star Wars show for me and given I'm in my late forties I've been a Star Wars fan my entire life, aiming one of their many shows at my demographic was a long overdue.

There isn't another Star Wars TV property nearly as good except season 1 of the Mandolorian and portions of Clones and Rebels. But I'd be open to opposing views.

Don’t streaming services have a much longer ‘tail’ on their content compared to traditional TV which is AD driven?

The business model is also a bit different, the back catalog is really important. It’s more about keeping people subbed than headline views on particular content. I imagine most of the watch time on Netflix and Disney is just kids watching back to back episodes of cartoons from their back catalogues rather than adults watching new high cost content.

Some of critiques: Don't they have facial recognition in star wars? The moment he was arrested, they would have ran a check? Then in the prison, no checks. When he decides to come back, why is he not in good disguise, or even wearing a hat? He's like one of the most wanted guys.

Also why doesn't the senator's cousin and access (forgot his name) help her with the missing credits when they just stole 80 million credits?

No Space Wizards, no Space Magic, no laser swords. Just normal people trying to get along under the boot of the Empire and lives being made a misery by the giant, almost faceless entity that are a law unto themselves and normal people wanting to be free. We'll skip over the fact that Cassian brought all the misery on himself and the town by murdering the two guards though!

No being cut through the middle with a laser to recover as if you've just had a tummy ache...

That is a general issue with Star Wars across all TV shows not just Andor. It's a magical kind of science without extreme computing power. Lots of shows have lack of facial recognition, its a strange but consistent part of the World. It feels odd to our technological society but theirs is kind of magical. Ships with tiny hulls able to travel between the stars but very little number crunching computer power. In Andor we have scenes with people manually looking through files like it's microfiche and similar scenes can be found in Clones and Rebels.

It is a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away!
