** It's Finally Coming! Much Eye Candy! **

Bizarre that they included speakers, but fair enough. I presume the 100Hz limit is a bandwidth thing rather than a panel limitation?

It's good that they're finally catching up though, considering how much ASUS have ploughed into becoming a top brand in the monitor space they've been really slow to release compared to Acer ever since the release of the Swift.

Yes, that's what I've always needed, a monitor that has a nicely designed BACK so I can look at it... oh wait! The wall will get in the way, damn!

I'm hoping after a review this will be my new monitor, Id like to think ASUS have given the design, specification and QC of the new monitor a thorough good testing prior to release. I find ACER generally rushes there hardware out wanting it to be the first on the market and not giving much creed to QC.

However. With all the issues some had with the swift I doubt it, but maybe ASUS have learnt from their past mistakes.

Hold off for this or get the x34 Predator?

Id hold out for a TFT central review or review etc on youtube first before making that decision of dropping almost a grand on a monitor.

The way I see it, spending a grand on something you spend half your life staring at isn't that much, if it increases the enjoyment out of your hobby and reduces fatigue then it's worth it, even more so if you use it to earn a living.

That said, the stand for this monitor just needs "Made by Dyson" written on it to finish it off.

In what way doesn't it come close? I'm guessing twice the refresh rate and a better resolution will help things along quite a bit?

As I say my current monitor doesn't have g-sync and motion blur is pretty much non existent

I'm afraid you have been duped by marketing, 99.99999999 percent of all TV's are 60Hz, I had a Panasonic Plasma till a year ago, 600Hz, accept it wasn't, most TV's will say they have 120, 200, 300Hz or whatever but they don't, all they do is switch the backlight on and off so many times per Hz(when the image is actually updated) to make it to that number, so in my TV's case it would flash the light 10 times per Hz to make 600. If you look at that TV again you will see it says 200Hz Clear Motion Rate, that's actually less misleading than most, a lot of them just say they have this amazingly high Hz and leave it to make people think it is when it isn't.

Same panel as the Acer X34... no-one should expect a vastly different monitor, or consider it to be much more than a cosmetic variant to Acer's offering. Under the surface, they will be pretty much identical, so if you're after a 34" IPS 1440p G-Sync monitor, just go for whichever of these you prefer the look of, and hope that your entry into the modern day monitor lottery gets you one with zero stuck/dead pixels, no BLB and minimal IPS glow. Good luck! :)

Pre-ordered anyway. Anyone else on it?

Well I have took the jump and sold my Samsung s34e790c, as much as I loved the monitor I need G-Sync. Vertical tearing has got to the point where it's just so frustrating I don't want to play certain games. I know this is the same panel as the accer but I'm really hoping the build quality is just that tad better.

Also i'm a bit of a sucker for the design of ROG products anyway, I think it brings out the inner 5 year old in me. :D

I just really really hope it's not going to be as bad as the LG 34UM 95 I Owned, as the BLB on that was so bad it was unusable in my opinion.

Anyway just my 2 pence, thanks guys.

The build quality of the Acer X34 is nothing shabby by most accounts. The ROG may be a notch up, and if you prefer the looks/design then win win, but the potential issues/faults with this monitor will be the same as the X34, i.e bleed, excessive glow, scan lines etc. It's not exactly a short list of complaints leveled against the X34, and the Asus will be prone to the same. This is shaping up to be the XB270HU vs PG279Q all over again... everyone thought the Asus would be an improvement, but it was actually worse!! We shall see, but I am not overly confident with this one. With a £1K price tag, perfection should be a pre-requisite, but it just won't happen.

As much as I hate to say it I completely agree with everything you have said, that being said I love the ultra wide form factor and I think it's an unbeatable experience for games/movies. I guess I have just under a month to decide between either 2x PG279Q and wait for the review of the PG348Q.

Damn you making me question my decisions! :D

By the way what was the XB270HU vs PG278Q competition? Must have missed that one.

The XB270HU was out a long time before the PG278Q, and had numerous faults/issues with BLB, dirt behind the screen etc. and everyone was saying the Asus would improve upon all that and it was the main reason they took so long to release it, making sure it was perfect... but it wasn't, not at all!

I agree with you on the UW form factor, it's a thing of beauty, but the monitor tech just isn't there yet. What gets me most is the panel being used in both the X34 and the PG348Q is actually pretty ancient now, being identical (just overclocked and G-Sync slapped on) to the one used in LG and Dell's curved monitors... both of which can be found (if you shop around) at almost half the price of the Asus. Which means you're paying over £400 for G-Sync and an extra 40Hz!! Fair value? Only the purchaser can really answer that one, but to me it certainly isn't.

What is it with gaming monitor design? It looks like it's about to transform. It seems Dell are the only company producing tasteful kit that doesn't look like it was designed by a 14 year old.

Got to agree with you here. Dell's industrial design is the best of all monitor manufacturers in my opinion. Sleek and understated.

I'm very excited about this monitor and would love to get my hands on one! Does a single 980ti is good enough ? Also, do you guys ship to Egypt ? Sadly no seller has the intention to buy any of the ultrawide screens yet : (
