I cannot agree and I hate VTEC engines. The thing is, I hate VTEC engines because they absolutely do not suit my driving style and not because they are crap because they are not - if you love to rev the **** out of your car then a VTEC powerplant is a hugely rewarding engine and delivers excellent performance, a Honda S2000 is NOT a slow car when driven in the correct manner.
For you, an S2000 would be rubbish, for me as well, but this doesn't make it a rubbish car full stop nor does it make Hondas engineers misguided simply because we'd prefer a niec 6 pot. There are other cars for people like us.
Not to our taste does not = crap. Surely you can see how VTEC would fit in with other peoples tastes? I'm all for slating fundamentally crap cars, like the Vauxhall Vectra, but the S2000 is very much not in this category. It's different, not rubbish.
Good, level headed post
Why? ...what is the use in having a discussion forum, to discuss different points of view etc, if all you ever hear, is what you want to hear ..or nothing at all?
A lot of people come here and do this precisely because this forum isn't full of people who all say the same thing. It challenges ideas and opinions.
I am glad, even thankful that people do not simply say, 'nice car mate' when such threads are posted around here. I had my own purchase questioned recently, I am glad that it was too, because it was all wrong and was costing me too much. The people here at OcUK, were able to get to me and say these things before my 'real' friends were, as I wouldn't have seen them until after it was too late.
Sometimes it may look or seem harsh, but I don't think anyone is going to get really offended by what people say around here, honest opinions and differing points of view are refreshing. I don't know about you but I get sick of hearing the same damn thing off a bunch of sycophantic numbskulls, 'Oh wow mate, nice choice', 'nice car' ...'good choice' ...it gets old after a while.
No one is saying you shouldn't express your opinion truthfully. Your problem is that your opinion is based on rather important flaws. I.e:
1.) You've never driven the car in question.
2.) You have rather misguided preconceptions about the engine/car before you have even stepped in it.
Objectively, you have no foundation to base your opinion on because its all based on admitted inexperience of the matter at hand, and an apparent judgement made by what you seem to "have heard".
Yes, people don't get on with this car/engine - usually due to their driving style, but at least they put their arse on the seat before they started flinging mud.
Therefore you shouldn't expect to be taken seriously when you have no experience of what you are talking about yet come out with some vocal treasures such as:
it was owned by a lady for a reason, it's got a wizzy little 4 pot under the bonnet, if you want a 'big boy' car, buy one with a 'big boy' engine
Jokes or no jokes, you didn't exactly get off on the right foot here to be taken seriously.
I wont lecture you on wrapping it around a tree, you need a 'proper' engine to do that 'properly' anyway
Yes, of course you do
I guess you've never driven an MX5 either.
but it's engine is a a serious weakness, just like the Honda.
That would be that engine you have no experience there again eh?
No, it's not so much about the speed, it's about the 'feel' of the engine, how it sounds and how it delivers it's power.
But you've never driven one so how would you know?
Enjoy your S2000 anyway Sin. Just think of what it might have been though, if Honda had done things differently with the engine.
No idea, but given as the S2000 is regarded by many as being the in the top 3 of it's class as it stands...
Oh I want to drive it, it's on my list of must drives. Maybe I will change my mind, but I doubt it.
No you won't change your mind, because you have already made it up. Based on nothing more than your preconceptions and prejudices. You've gone so far down the road, you aren't ever going to change your mind.
It doesn't make the right noise for a start
...........
Spend 20 minutes on youtube.
Some call Honda engineers geniuses, I call them miss-guided for the most part. I guess that comes down to preference for one philosophy of 'engines' or another though.
Again, don't really understand how you can make these sorts of statements when you have no experience. Just bewilders me. How you can you have a preference when you have no basis for comparison?
You don't have to have complete personal experience of everything you comment on really do you
Of course not. But it certainly helps if you want to be taken seriously. Especially on here.
especially if you have enough other experiences to build a picture of what something may or may not be like.
Experiences of what?
It's fine to not agree with something in principle. But you've passed judgement and asked for the executioner.
If you'd have said something like:
"I'm not sure I like the ethos behind the engine design and power delivery as it's a bit different, but i've got an open mind and will make my mind up when I try one."
But instead you posted all the crap above, complete with sweeping statements, unfounded judgements and all the rest of it. No wonder no one, including the VTEC basher certified Grand Master™ Mr Fox, agreed with you.
I've spent too much time posting this bumpf when the weather is fantastic.
Have a great day and try not to approach all decision making in this manner, as you'll miss out on some great things in life
Good day
