Glad i took my D5000 back now this will be mine!!

love swivel screens.:D

also a EOS 1100D was announced!! for those with a little less to spend.

Also brand new kit lens!

Introducing the new EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II
Launching with the EOS 600D is the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II – a new kit lens that provides excellent performance for beginners. A lightweight construction makes it easy to carry, and Canon’s acclaimed optical Image Stabilization also minimises the risk of blur, allowing photographers to use shutter speeds 4 stops slower while still maintaining a blur-free shot. The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II will succeed the existing EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS in Canon’s lens line-up.

this will be mine...........roll on april.

18mp means it must be better than a D700 !

I suppose that if Canon use the same sensor in multiple cameras the economies of scale make it cheaper than making multiple sensors for each range xxxD, xxD and xD. If you can have a 1.6x, a 1.3x and a 1x crop and just use those then that must be a better option than having 3 different 1.6x crop sensors for example.

what are the differences between this and the 550d ?

Video snapshot mode, tilt screen, they will claim better high iso even if it's just the same ;)

I read on TP that the MK2 kit lens has the same optics but cheaper build quality to keep the costs down.

Same sensor as the 550d, which is no bad thing. Don't really need more than 18mp!

Articulating screen: Very nice.
3-10x maintaining HD output: Nice (if it's done right).
Video snapshot mode: Seems pointless, but what do I know :)
Built in sound level: Nice.
Extra scene modes/beginner settings: Not interested personally.
18-55 mk2: Will it be any better than the mk1? We'll see.

Not a big jump from the 550d, which is disappointing although not unexpected, but the articulating screen would be enough for me :)

Does this not make the 60D kind of seem even more pointless?

I mean if you were looking at buying a new camera, you would surely be weighing up the 600D and the 7D, rather than the 60D.

I wouldn't go for a 600D over the 60D purely due to its size :)

The 600D will feel like a toy in comparison :) - going by previous generations...

600D imo makes the 60D obsolete.
Also if there is any size worries, then stick on a grip, then you can shoot easier in portrait, and have better battery life.

It's not just a grip thing. The acutal body itself, going by previous generations, will cramp peoples hands and feel horrible to use (once you've experienced a better body)

If you have huge hands then maybe, but not for most people.
For instance when comparing my gripped 550d to my friends 40d like you had, the gripped 550d was much more comfortable imo.

The main problem with un-gripped small bodies, is you can't fit your pinky on at the bottom very well, which is then solved with a grip.
Also I prefer to carry a lighter camera.

My perfect camera would be the Canon 3d FF sensor that's described under "the land of the crazy" headline.

Yes but surely it makes more sense to spend a bit more and get the 7D.

The 60D just really strikes me as a camera that's kind of in the wrong place.

Maybe this is note of things to come. They are upping the game of all their camera significantly?

Looks alright. The 550d already has a shedload of features for the money, it's a cracking buy. Canon do seem to have a habit of making excellent value bodies that lessen the need to buy the more expensive ones though. Look at the 5dMK2- ~£1,600 compared with £5,100 for the 1DSMK3. It's also questionable whether you'd pay the extra for the 60d (although I know some will).

Maybe Canon should make the next 1DS medium format!

glad you put on "IMO" as i've never heard anyone ever say that a 550d is more comfortable than a 40D in any situation, it just isn't, especially when it comes to using it and all the controls are in crap places. The xxxD series have their place and advantages, however comfort over a xx or xD camera is and never has been one of them.

I wouldn't disagree with that.

It's the position in the market that is odd.
Most people buying their first Digital SLR, or certainly after a decent SLR (as let's face it they are feature packed) would buy an xxxD series camera.

If after that you decide to upgrade as you are enjoying the photography, would you really go for a xxD series or spend a little more and get the 7D or 5Dmk2?

In terms of Digital SLRs, I went from a 350D as my first to a 7D.

I'm not saying there aren't people buying their first Digital SLR and going straight for the 60D, I just think they are probably the lesser in terms of customers.

Lol, that what I thought about the 40D, guess it's what your used to.
Have you actually held or used a 550d (or similar) with a grip?
