ITS TOO DAMN HOT

Cheers for the addition of the piranhas Rich, ordered 3 of em now. Will help take away the bad look of the mixture of fans i have in my case.

On a side note, do you have any way of knowing if Akasa will eventually be releasing a 140mm variant of the piranha? I know they did with the viper and the apache models.

Im looking at buying 8 fans for my new water cooling build in a month and would like to know which are best and most importantly the best way to controll said fans as they will be on dual radiator and then ill have the 4 cases fans (going for a 900d) so what is best fan and way to controll them all?

I do like the gentle typhoons but the fan controllers on OC only go up to 6 channel do i need to get splitters?

Yes, most controllers have high enough wattage per channel to run more than one fan. Best choose one with >20W to ensure no problems
I am using the Lamptron FC2 which I would say is as solid as they come but out of stock on OcUK.
You are best using splitters for fans on a rad anyway so they all run at the same speed.

is this where all the stock of 1850rpm GTs went? :p
if so, does that mean the bundles ARE in stock and ready to ship?

need 2 now, 4 total, so would prefer bundles in those quantities, but understand you couldn't really offer a saving on a pair......if in stock to ship today I'll pick up 3 :)

I have a scythe Kaze master ace, which AFAIK is 1A per channel (so I assume 12w), I take it I should only run one fan on each channel? (the GT 1850s)

cheers monster :) I only need 4 fans in my rig for now, but nice to have room to expand if needed. will ask in CS about stock

edit: just asked in CS forum.......apparently the 1850 GTs are EOL, and they won't be getting any more

what the heck do I put on my 2x240 rads now?!
are the akasa piranhas any good? my apaches have done me pretty well over the years, but was ideally looking for a bit more preformance, the piranhas seem to have similar output to apaches for a given fan speed....

(...or should I just order some GTs from a competitor while they are still around :p )

the GT are not EOL

i have them as EOL on the system we work on to stop them from being over-ordered as when we run out, it can sometimes be weeks before our next order arrives.

the GTs literally ran out of stock today but will not show as OOS until the orders placed on them ship out.

the next lot are due in a week or so.

Thanks for the clarification RJK, I thought it was a bit odd for them to be retiring what are so often considred to be the best of the best :) glad to hear they'll be back, will order some on payday

I'm after a couple of 140mm fans too for my G5 project - fingers crossed there might be a few on offer this week. As an aside, are pwm fans overkill for case fans? Especially if they're just going onto the board rather than a fan controller?

If your motherboard supports PWM fans then they are perfect for use without a fan controller and allow the motherboard to control them.

Having owned vipers and now the piranhas, i much prefer the latter. They seem quieter despite being the same speed, and they definitely do push a bit more air. This is on an air heatsink though.

cheers setter, I have found a review of the piranhas, which states that they are the second loudest fan they have tested! http://geeteck.net/reviews/akasa-piranha-ak-fn072/3/
seems a bit odd to me compared to usual comments on them! if I'm going to spend £15 a fan, I think I can probably hold out until the GTs are back in, as they seem to be the universal weapon of choice! however, if I can get the piranhas for a bit cheaper, I may give them a go, I'm rather new to proper watercooling, and not really too sure which type of fans best suit which type of rad

Thanks again for your input :)
