It's too hot :(

It's 22C in Rotherhithe. It's perfect.

Arctic foxes indeed.

I live in Rotherhithe, some 120 metres from the Tunnel entrance, 70 metres from the river.
Our bedroom faces west, I woke up circa 07.50 this a.m. and didn’t want to get up as the bedroom felt chilled due to the fact that my wife insists on having the bedroom window slid wide open all night.
I’d have guessed at 15c to 16c in the bedroom, fine for some, NOT for me.
Beaten by hunger, and jonesing for eggs Benedict and coffee, I donned jeans and a fleece and rushed downstairs at 09.10.
It was marginally warmer in the kitchen, as it faces east and the sun was shining in.

You need to emigrate, somewhere near Papeete should suffice.

were roasting in Greece, 45C projected on monday, its been 20 days over 35C and its too much already, still July...

I remember landing in Athens once in the late seventies, and as I got to the exit door of the plane it felt like I’d had a bucket of warm water thrown in my face, the pilot had said that it was over 100f.

Or Bora Bora, either would suit me, can’t see the enemy going for it though, she’d melt.

That fresh air after the storm has moved on, temps have gone up by about 2.5C again, back up to 24C at 2am.

Where, Savannah GA?
Marginally rising temps must have missed my street, although this morning was a bit better than yesterday.
I negotiated with the enemy and she agreed to slide the window closed if she wakes before me.

One of the problems with the UK is we get 1 week of abnormal heat and then it's back to normal.

If you live somewhere more consistent your body does adjust over time.

There is also the deep irony of people using energy, producing carbon in order to counteract the effects of producing too much carbon!

Usually in my part of the country we get 4-6 weeks of heatwave at a minimum every summer, this one has been unusually mild so far. Note high 20s has been seen as late as October. So not sure why people think summer is over.

Hence the discussions of A/C as the heatwaves are a regular occurrence now.

Where abouts are you?

I think in the UK we need to be smarter, build houses designed for hotter climates, external shutters, passive cooling, use of shade etc.

I do think this is just the start of it though :-/

East midlands.

I tend to miss all the westerlies wind, rain, get most of the south east heat. and also miss most of the southern storms as they fade out before getting here.

I agree on the housing.

Had the storm but tbh known much worse, headlines of 75mph I think we got 40 mph, actually looking like Saturday is a nice usable cool walking day

I really don't think it's worth it for the few days of hot weather we get per year.

It's rare that the temp ever goes above 25C in this country. For about 50 weeks of the year it's under that.

How do people actually survive this?

I hope they get real AC as standard?

There is a reason people love to holiday in the Mediterranean climate.

Better designed homes
Apprpriate lifestyles (dress codes, siestas)
Cooler nights for respite
Lower humidity
Pools and beaches common place

Everyone fits into their environment and then has to deal with the extremes. Survival of the fittest and the trials of life. For us Brits, extremes are a few days of 30c.

Are the people who bought the loud portable air conditioner feeling a bit silly now? I'm thinking of putting the heating on :P

I’ve had a small fan heater on for a couple of five minute bursts twice since the heat wave finished.
Once when I woke up very early and was jonesing for scrambled eggs, it was a tad chilly in the kitchen.
Once about 01.00 when I was reading a book in the living room, and nursing a few vodkas.

Can’t argue with that, sounds about right to me.
