It's too hot :(

None of the forecasts have been close to correct for where I live since Friday.

If we don't get any rain these next 2 days it could be 40, 50, 60 days. As Its expected to be dry for week after!

"Why are you moving to Wales? It always rains there" was what I got a lot before I moved.

Blimey a bit fresher today max was 21c and the humidity is gone at least outdoors its still too warm in here though even tried to rain a teensy tiny bit didn't amount to diddly squat though keep seeing these thunderstorms tracking across the channel but they keep dodging us
Forecast to get cooler week after so not indicative of the rest of summer. Might be up down, all around, rain or snow.

Air con is on currently to cool our flat down - 25C inside and muggy/cloudy here. Run this morning was a little too hot.
Really? Minimum temperature is 25c here through to next weekend and the long range forecast isn't much different

That was true of the SW too when the SE was roasting under withering drought conditions it always rained down in devon you could guarantee it all that changed last year though the area of drought is expanding its just as dry down there now heck even in Scotland the forests are burning

Oh and some distant rumbles and it rained for all of 5 minutes! Well it ought to wash some pollen out of the air if nothing else hayfever has been a nightmare lately

I'm 37. I used to live in Suffolk.
I remember numerous winters when the pond would ice over and we'd go ice skating.
The ice was so thick even a sledge hammer couldn't break it.
We made igloos out of all the snow.
30s was unprecedented. It was so rare to hit that.

Now, that frozen ice rink never happens. Certainly not enough to skate. This is 30 years. It's quite shocking really.

I was reading we are moving out of a few unusual years of la nina to el nino.
And la nina doesn't usually last years.
La nina is "cooler" global temps. Which has buffered global warming. Now we are entering el nino it's going to be the opposite.

Expect some record breaking sea level rise and glacier retreating data coming out in next few years.

How many times will we hear "it's now or never" for the environment.. While we still pump out green house gasses.

We haven't got a chance or getting global warming under control in time.

I mostly grew up in Somerset - never had ice like that during my lifetime - last time I think was 78 or 79 just before I was born. I remember several summers as a kid in the 90s when it hit 30-32C for 1-2 days and was 28+ for several days.

The biggest change I've seen really is that we don't have weeks of cold, with a few very cold days over winter - now it is mostly mild and mucky with the odd isolated coldish days.

While there are some unprecedented changes we can see for ourselves such as glaciers retreating, I'm leery on the projections for climate change - the two main forces behind climate change and the modelling of it have a horrendously poor track record for accuracy in anything else - I have no idea why that is so often glossed over or unknown.

That said if climate change as talked about by leading figures is correct or close to correct yes we are utterly failing to deal with it and all the talk and things done to look like we are doing something about it will not even scratch the surface and every day we don't do the right thing(s) will make what is required to deal with a much much bigger battle. Some say at least stuff like the Paris Accords get the ball rolling but that isn't enough, not even a fraction of enough it will never have the required effect in time if it ever would at all so isn't really any more useful than doing nothing at all (not that I advocate throwing our hands up and just doing nothing at all).

As a kid remember the summers of ‘89 and ‘90 being very hot. The sand on beaches in Isle of Wight was too hot to walk on.

The rest of the summers were meh. Even a few of my friends’ birthday parties we had indoors.

The problem is you'll never get countries like China or India to go green. Despite they already feel some of the worst pollution from all the **** they chuck out. It's just expensive to go green and this would put a sizeable dent in their economies.

Or America or Germany.....

Top 10 polluters
  • China, with more than 10,065 million tons of CO2 released.
  • United States, with 5,416 million tons of CO2.
  • India, with 2,654 million tons of CO2.
  • Russia, with 1,711 million tons of CO2.
  • Japan, 1,162 million tons of CO2.
  • Germany, 759 million tons of CO2.
  • Iran, 720 million tons of CO2.

Yes I knew the US was near the top of the list, but minus the trump era they have made pledges to go green(er) - can only hope they speed things up.

Never forget the summer of 95, 30c+ every day for the entire month of August. I was utterly fed up by the end of it

Gonna have to be nearly a week of sleeping with the windows open by the looks of the forecast. Great  all the noise from the main road and pollen absolutely owning my whole body.

In fairness, China has a massive population. The fairer way to display this would be CO2 per person:

CO₂ emissions in metric tons per capita

Qatar - 35.59
Bahrain - 26.66
Kuwait - 24.97
Trinidad and Tobago - 23.68
Brunei Darussalam - 23.53
United Arab Emirates - 21.79
New Caledonia - 19.1
Saudi Arabia - 18.7
Oman - 17.92
Australia - 15.09
Mongolia - 15.03

Suddenly, the Middle East is the biggest problem with China and USA not in the top 10.

Heat felt fine through the day yesterday, despite being 30 degrees, never uncomfortable or too much, however had an awful nights sleep, just so still and humid in the bedroom, opening windows made no difference.

We have a ceiling fan running in the bedroom when it gets hot and humid during the evenings.
It does make a lot of difference.
