#ItsWhatWeDo

we surely all know that policing is a tough job and that there are many very good police officers in the UK.

sadly i don't feel any amount of videos will ever make people stop thinking about that handful of 'bad' officers who bring shame and mistrust upon the rest of the service though . especially when such officers seem to get so much protection/backing/defence from those at the top

Just to add to the the list of itswhatwedo: ignoring domestic violence, it's seems after today's news

I'd like to point out that Hampshire come out very well from that report. Indeed we have the best charge rate for DV cases in the country.

So there. :p

Interesting the different responses to the scenarios :)

In my case,

Scenario 1) - Prisoner either gets dragged around the corner so I can help my mate who could be beaten to a pulp or worse, or the prisoner is released and I go and help my mate. Either way the Officer shouting for assistance is my priority - ok I might get disciplined for losing a prisoner but I will be able to hold my head up next time I walk into the station.

Scenario 2) Horrible one to be in. If he's cut the main artery in my mates neck he's likely to be dead in a minute or two. Personal Attack button is pressed - "Officer been stabbed request assistance" shouted down the radio. At this point if there is no escape route behind me, anything and everything between me and the offender (including the TV) is going to be launched at him, until he either puts the knife down or is sparked out. He has shown his intent to kill so unless he ceases to be a threat he is fair game using reasonable force (which includes potentially killing him).

Scenario 3) Turn off ignition if I can. Reassure the male. Ensure he is breathing if he goes unconscious. Protect the scene from other vehicles potentially colliding with the car. If a fire starts, the injured male is getting dragged out - better to be alive with injuries than burnt to death.

The best answer I've seen for scenario 2 is "Tactical vase to the face". I'm not entirely sure what a "tactical vase" looks like but I'm sure it's very effective.

It's a bit like a tactical stool across his head, only with pretty patterns painted on the surface, smaller and more breakable. Same result though.

Is it a black coloured vase? Then it's very much tactical and commands a premium.

Cannot beat a bit of quality tactical black.

1) leave them and go to help partner
2) shoot him with tazer/kill him and then call ambulance.
3) get the guy out of the van as soon as possible.

no

1) make jokes down the radio ask partner if he is a fat man and why he doesnt run
2) ask him if he needs some butter for his knife
3) light a smoke and wait for backup.

My Police Officer friends ( Yes I know some Plod :p) know exactly how I would deal with All Criminals.

Identify them.
Gas them.
Tazor them.
Van.
Foot stomping.
Cell.

My 6 point plan to peace & order on the streets. :D

2 is quite disturbing. Would an asp give you enough reach to defend yourself? Do you get trained any knife defense stuff? I'm training in Krav Maga and my trainer is ex-police/firearms/SWAT but I don't know how much Krav the police use :p

If the scenario in 2nd video unfolded here, that guy would have got 2 shots in the chest and 1 attempt at a head-shot... Which would have obviously missed, resulting in a rather slow death while chocking and coughing up blood since the bullets most likely would have hit Lungs or Trachea.

Police with no tasers or guns, I do not understand this sorry... In all countries I have been and that includes many in Europe, never have I seen police being so un-armed and defenseless as in UK....

Countries like Norway and Switzerland have a more "decent" society therefore they dont need mini-guns with them... I am not sure UK has society good enough to un-arm cops completely.

ASP can be used but is a close in tactical option. PAVA gives you more distance as does Taser but not all cops carry one. Knife defence training is almost non existent as in hand to hand. An assailant can close a gap very quickly.

If that scenario, anything and everything is justifiable to disarm and apprehend him. If that means the TV getting launched at him then fair enough.

Even in that situation taser may not establish full control as there wasn't a huge distance between the officer and the male and it didn't look like there was much room behind her for her to step back. Would likely just get some local nmi from it due to being fairly close and enough space and time to get out but would have to follow it up with some other tactical option to help colleague.

Me personally maybe taser followed by the hardest strike i could muster to drop him and cuff him so able to help colleague.
