itunes problem

I have all my music on an external HD.

I've recently got a new PC and syncronised itunes with the HD. ALl the music is there and plays fine.

Except... I am unable to edit any track details (artist, genre etc). It's as if they are write protected, but they're not.

I didn't have this issue on the previous pc using Win XP. This one is Win7 (the only real difference I can think of)

Any suggestions?

Urgh. This is definitley smething to do with Win7.

If I right click Properties for the whole Music folder, the Read Only box is checked.

I uncheck it, and Apply to all folders, subfolders and files and it takes a minute or so presumably sorting it.

Then when I go back into the Music folder the Read Only is checked again.

In properties there is a Security tab with multiple "users" and a list of permissions for each.

I didn't set up any users or anything. How do I change all this?

Sorted. I had to go in the the Security tab and change the user permissions. Not sure why though. But it worked.

Well if you didn't have write permission on the drive then you're not going to be able to modify any part of the mp3s ie, the tags!

I meant I wasn't sure why Win7 decided, after having all my music on the drive for 4 or 5 years, that it should now be protected and I shouldn't have permission to edit.
