Anyone see the evening (6:30pm) news on ITV? They had a "special investigation" into online gaming, specifically the PS3 network, and the "horrendous" insults your child may receive there. Apparently the N word was used  Is it really newsworthy that gamers are ultra-competitive and **** each other off? I thought the PS3 network was supposed to be 18+ anyway

At the current trend of "Health and Safety", "Child Protection", "Political Correctness", "Blame Culture", "Parents with Hypocrite Pitch Forks" and the crap like theses, I'd not be surprised if some law or something stupid will be spewed out by the politicians and watch dogs...

Yes, the gaming world is like that... since IRC started, it has always been like that, not just in the gaming world - just have to teach them the simple "block" and ignore, like on XBL.

If the playing kid is responsible enough, he'll know what's right and what's wrong. It's all about family discipline and upbringing - which no surprise, the current generation lacks - all responsibilities are simply pushed and blamed.

Dear god if they thought that was bad they should have been in the match I played on RB6:V not long after it was launched.

It was 8v8 mostly americans and all with mics.

All I will say is they didn't like bush and every single one of them seemed to like their homers or homies or some twaddle like that.

Well if it is 18+ then it's a bit silly, but is it? think Live is 13? I never seen it, but we all know it's true really, the amount of abuse and insults that goes on is very much not suitable for kids.

Xbox has a decent complaint system, plus you can mute people and avoid them (in theory) does PSN have such features? Plus with a child account you can stop all voice over live so a parent does have options to keep that stuff away from online gaming. Maybe this is why it was more about PSN.

shame they didn't pickup the one about the xbox live user xxxGayBoyxxx, even Major Nelson responded

Another Xbox complaint MMM, how unlike you recently!
The difference is, Xbox Live is a paid service. PSN is free, so it's easier to get onto and therefore easier to be subjected to insults and language like that.

It's all a mountain of a molehill. Next there will be one about the language you can expect to hear on a night out in a pub. :o.

The PS3 online system is missing these which is why it was investigated

I'd like to see what MS actually do when you file a complaint, it would be nice to have some feedback on what they've actually 'done' which I doubt is very much. I've complained numerous times about people.

Awww man, I had the worst experience ever on xbox live last night...

I played with the top of the money leaderboard bloke on kane and lynch (diabolic player or something like that) last night and he was giving me so much shizzle it was unreal! And im used to the joys of CSS lol

1 complaint probably won't do much or else would be too easy to get someone banned, but people do get banned for having a x amount of complaints

How old are the people who go into pubs?

This is about kids who shouldn't be subjected to online abuse, Which is so rampent online. When I have kids, I can safely say I'll analyze where they are going online, and make sure they only game with certain people. Randoms for instance, I'd rather not have my kids gaming with.

It would take a lot of negative feedback to get banned on xbl - it kind of has to be that way with people giving negative feedback because you beat them in a game

PC gaming has had this problem for years. Just go onto a counter-strike server and you'll find plenty of examples of potty mouths it's nothing new.
Obviously parents should be aware of this and restrict internet access as a result if they believe their child is not ready to handle themselves online.

Wish I had £1 for every time i've been accused of cheating in CS, funny thing is I was never any good at it either.

And agree, I've no sympathy for parents who let their children play games over the internet and what they pick up, we've only just let our girls on MSN to talk to their friends and they are 12 and 13, and that is heavily monitored over VNC so I can see who they're talking to.

So you don't think gaming should be a family experience and instead blame the parents for others talking smack? Do you believe the amount of abuse over a game is justified and to be expected?
